The brief was to modify a standard pitched roofed cottage house into a U-shaped contemporary house. The
shape of the bedrooms upstairs was retained, extended only to make the rooms larger. Tans priorities with
the remodeling were to reduce the visual mass of the existing pitched-roof structure, combine
the ground floor rooms into a coherent open-plan space and get a better connection between

Inspired by the large umbrella trees in the garden, the design of the family rooms would naturally face

Because the house was big in size, I decided to conceal the roof by having flat roofs so the building doesnt appear voluminous from an angle because you cannot see the roof beyond. I also simplified the floor plan in terms
