I never knew my father. He was a


traveling elf adventurer, and the only
thing he left behind with my mother
was me. She did her best to raise
me by herself, but she was
murdered by a common thug over a
few pieces of silver when I was only
8. Shortly after, the killer fled my
home village. It was then that my
path of bloodshed was set. I spent
the next 12 years learning how to
kill, and becoming very good at it. I
moved to a large city and became a
sword for hire, all the while keeping
an eye out for the man who killed my
mother. At last, one night I saw him
stumble drunk out of a tavern. But
fate had other plans; he tumbled into
a cloaked figure on the street. The
man in the cloak drew his sword, cut
the drunkard's throat, and continued
down the road. I tried to catch up
with him but he turned a corner and
vanished. The only thing I could see
about the cloaked man was a ring
he wore on his left hand: a pale blue
stone with a thorned band. Now I
travel the land, killing for gold, killing
for fun, searching for anything that
will lead me to the cloaked man. The
man who denied me my revenge.
CHARACTER BACKSTORY

Thieves' Cant; During your rogue training you learned thieves' cant, a
secret mix of dialect, jargon, and code that allows you to
hide messages in seemingly normal conversation. Only another
creature that knows thieves' cant understands such messages. It takes
four times longer to convey such a message than it does to speak the
same idea plainly. In addition, you understand a set of secret signs
and symbols used to convey short, simple messages, such as whether
an area is dangerous or the territory of a thieves' guild, whether loot is
nearby, or whether the people in an area are easy marks or will
provide a safe house for thieves on the run.
Criminal Contact; You have a reliable and trustworthy contact who
acts as your liaison to a network of other criminals. You know how to
get messages to and from your contact, even over great distances;
specifically, you know the local messengers, corrupt caravan masters,
and seedy sailors who can deliver messages for you.
