Pneumonia

Causes:
Anyone can develop pneumonia but some groups are at greater risk:

Babies and toddlers particularly those born


prematurely
People who have had a
recent viral infection - such
as a cold or influenza (the
flu)
Smokers

People with chronic lung


conditions
People with suppressed
immune systems
People who drink excessive
alcohol
Patients in hospital
People who have had
strokes

Signs and symptoms:

High fever
Chills
Shortness of breath
Increased breathing rate
A worsening cough that may produce discolored or bloody sputum
(phlegm)
Sharp chest pains caused by inflammation of the membrane that
lines the lungs.

Diarrhea
Causes:

not digesting food completely for example, some people can't


digest lactose, the sugar found in milk, while others may not be able
to digest or absorb fat or carbohydrates
certain intestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's
disease
bacterial and viral infections such as salmonella or rotavirus, the
most common cause of transient diarrhea in children
intestinal parasites, especially when travelling
certain medications, such as blood pressure medications, those
containing magnesium and others
radiation or chemotherapy
overactive thyroid gland

Signs and symptoms:

Nausea.
Abdominal Pain.
Cramping.
Bloating.

Dehydration.
Fever.
Bloody Stools.

Leptospirosis
Causes:

Drinking contaminated water


Coming into contact with contaminated water or soil if they have
unhealed cuts in their skin
Their eyes, nose or mouth come into contact with contaminated
water or soil
Coming into contact with the blood of an infected animal (less
common)

Signs and symptoms:

Chills
Coughing
Diarrhea
Headaches, these can come on suddenly
High fever
Muscle pain, particularly lower back and calves
Nausea
Poor appetite
Red and irritated eyes
Skin pain

Malnutrition
Causes:

Poor diet
Mental health problems
Mobility problems
Digestive disorders and stomach conditions
Alcoholism

Signs and Symptoms:

Loss of fat (adipose tissue)

H1N1 Flu Virus


Causes:

H1N1 flu is caused by a virus. The most common subtype, or strain,


is influenza type A H1N1, and this subtype has also caused infection
in people. The letters H and N in the subtype name stand for
proteins found on the surface of the virus, which are used to
distinguish between different subtypes.

Signs and Symptoms:

Cough
Fever
Sore throat
Stuffy or runny nose
Body aches
Headache

Chills
Fatigue
