5.1 PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF SOLAR POINT COLLECTOR AND FLAT PLATE

COLLECTOR AT STANDSTILL CONDITION
Graph 5.1.1 Shows that the performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate
collector at standstill condition

Graph 5.1.1 performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate collector at
standstill condition
Standstill condition is more often word considering of solar collectors. In this case the flow rate
is zero, water inside the tube kept for five to ten min without any flow so that the temperature
analysis can be done simple. Temperature rise inside the tube water is noted down and relative
graph is plotted with respect to time. This shows that the temperature of water in solar point
collector is much higher than that of solar flat plate collector.

5.2 PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF SOLAR POINT COLLECTOR AND FLAT PLATE

COLLECTOR
Graph 5.2.1 Shows that the performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate
collector with the flow rate of 30kg/hr

Graph 5.2.1 performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate collector with
the flow rate of 30kg/hr
From the graph we can conclude the performance efficiency of solar point collector is always
higher than that of normal solar flat plate collector. If the flow rate increases, corresponding
efficiency will also increase so efficiency is directly proportional to flow rate.

Graph 5.2.2 Shows that the performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate
collector with the flow rate of 12kg/hr

Graph 5.2.2 performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate collector with
the flow rate of 12kg/hr
From the graph we can conclude the performance efficiency of solar point collector is always
higher than that of normal solar flat plate collector. If the flow rate increases, corresponding
efficiency will also increase so efficiency is directly proportional to flow rate.
Here the flow rate is low compared to that of previous flow rate so the percentage of efficiency is
comparatively reduced from graph 5.2.1

Graph 5.2.3 Shows that the performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate
collector with the flow rate of 6kg/hr

Graph 5.2.3 performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate collector with
the flow rate of 6kg/hr
From the graph we can conclude the performance efficiency of solar point collector is always
higher than that of normal solar flat plate collector. If the flow rate increases, corresponding
efficiency will also increase so efficiency is directly proportional to flow rate.
In this case of flow rate , performance efficiency is in between 12-20% . This percentage will be
very low compared to that of flow rate 30kg/hr.

Graph 5.2.4 Shows that the performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate
collector with the flow rate of 3kg/hr

Graph 5.2.4 performance comparison between solar point collector and flat plate collector with
the flow rate of 3kg/hr
From the graph we can conclude the performance efficiency of solar point collector is always
higher than that of normal solar flat plate collector. If the flow rate increases, corresponding
efficiency will also increase so efficiency is directly proportional to flow rate.
Here the percentage efficiency is very low due to the rate of flow. In this case flow rate is nearer
to lowest value. So the percentage efficiency is also very low it may be in between 10-15%.
Solar point collector which has sufficient range of thermal utility and reduced heat losses
compared to that of solar flat plate collector. In spite of direct heating by using glass cover,
convex lenses fixed glass cover is more focusing capability of heat. Solar point glass cover does
not allow the heat reverse to atmosphere and also most of the heat is directly focused onto tube
which conducts thermic fluid. So that all losses are minimized and performance has to be
improved at some reasonable value.
