Notice of Valuation and
Classification forms
may contain an error
Todd County Assessor Chuck
Pelzer visited with the board of
Commissioners to point out that
the printer had made an error on
the blue Notice of Valuation and
Classification form that was
recently mailed to Todd County
tax payers. Pelzer said the
Valuation and Classification on
all the forms is correct. However,
some taxpayers received a form
with the wrong year printed on
it.
On some forms the last sen-
tence in the text in the upper
right hand corner reads, "The
property taxes you will pay in
2010 will be based on this valua-
tion and classification." Pelzer
said the year in that sentence
should be 2011, not 2010.
The error is repeated further
down the form in fine print that
is in parentheses. In the
"Property Classification" box,
under "Assessment Year 2009"
County holds
informational meeting

The Todd County Board of
Commissioners held an informa-
tional meeting for the public as
part of their Tuesday March 30
evening meeting. As part of the
meeting commissioners
announced the deadline for the
implementation of new septic
system rules has been extended
until at least 2012. The rules had
gone into effect this February
but loud complaints from
Todd County Commissioners,
as well as county commissioners
from across rural Minnesota,
caused the Minnesota legislature
to postpone the deadline. The

Pelzer said he did not under-
stand how the printer got some
forms correct and some forms
incorrect. His department sent
the correct numbers to the print-
er, he said.
Administrator Burkett com-
plimented Pelzer and his staff
for their efficiency and high
quality of work. Burkett pointed
out the Assessor's office has been
accomplishing its work in recent
months with only five employ-
ees. The department normally
has eight employees.

Control Agency, would have
required almost anyone who sold
their rural home to install a new
pressurized septic system. They
would have to install a new sys-
tem even if their existing septic
system was installed in recent
years and functioning properly,
according to Commissioner
Ruda. Commissioner Kircher
said the expense of building a
new, unnecessary, system would
be an unfair financial burden to
rural homeowners.
