1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


The society needs a modern world, a modern flavor of productivity. Institutions and
companies nowadays opts the use of modern innovations and technologies to support and
improve their services, specifically in business transactions and in other processes or procedures
that exerts much effort. Computers are already in the line of basic needs, as it eases tasks, being
reliable and efficient. These devices as well aids in organizing, storing and manipulating data
needed for certain operations.
Osias Educational Foundation is one who needs a change and an upgrade to their systems
inside their institution, particularly in their timekeeping and payroll which is the problem of most
of the employees inside the institution, for the reason of being imprecise when it comes to the
computations. It is so hustle to use and create the payslip and the time keeping which the human
resources need to encode all the attendance using spreadsheets, because they are still using a
bundy clock, and the wages of each employee will be based on that card.
The Osias Educational foundation then Osias Colleges saw its birth in the summer of
1947. The best way to begin, is to begin, was the slogan of Dr. Camilo Osias, its founder. In
the fervent hope of the administration headed by its founder, to serve the public in a greater way,
the college was converted in to a non-stock, non-profit organization in 1971. Currently, the
school headed by the present administration, continues to expand its services to the community
and to shape minds who are globally competitive for community development through
technological researches.
By using a computerized system, Osias Educational Foundation, can do calculation
activity smoothly and fast. They will no longer need to use a bundy clock and reduce the
calculation mistake. In addition, the employees can get the full details salary slip. Therefore,
Osias Educational Foundations timekeeping and payroll system needs an improvement.

1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


Our objective was to develop a payroll system that would keep a secured record of employee
data including their pension plan, union membership status, and taxes and also to be able to
calculate the pay of the employees taking into consideration employee data. Including a small
feature of timekeeping, that will monitor the complete information of the employees time in, and
time out.

1.3 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Payslip: These are similar to pay cheques. They allow the employee to have his or her pay
printed out on paper so that they can cash it.
Employee Data: This is the employee's information in the company. It consists of the employee
identification number, employee name, pay rate, pension plan flag, and union member flag.
Payroll Records: The payroll records are used to store each months hours worked, and the rates
for that month.
Deductions: Deductions are made up of taxes, union membership dues, pension plan. They are
subtracted from the gross pay to give the net pay which is the employee's final pay for the month.
Rates: Rates consists of the percentage that would be deducted from the gross pay depending on
union membership status, pension plan, state and federal tax. Each employee can have a unique
hourly rate.
