Checklist Training Explanations
The checklist shall be performed as an interaction between 2 people. The reviewer (as defined in WS QHSE Standard 1
Guideline 2) will ask the challenge questions to the person who designed the cement job. The cement program and design file
(CEMENTICS) will be available to the reviewer so that each answer can be challenged and confirmed quickly.
If any answers do not follow the script, a valid and approved MOC allows continuing on to the next question or Q-Stop must be
applied. The program should be re-done, and the checklist should be re-started from the top.
1. This question determines that the cement job objective is explicitly stated in the cement program, and agreed by the client
(e.g. TOC @ __ft or casing pressure test are simple acceptable job objectives). To answer Stated and agreed there
must be a job objective explicitly stated in the program, and there must be a client response indicating agreement with the
program (e.g. Basis of Design (BOD), client signature or email).
2. BHST is a significant design parameter. The answer is the BHST for the well and the source of that temperature (e.g.
temperature map, log temperatures). The challenger may ask for additional source verification.
3. Well control is a primary responsibility during all operations at the wellsite. To answer No influx simulations must show that
there is no influx. In many cases, losses can happen during cementing. To answer Losses addressed the simulations must
show no losses, or a plan for lost circulation mitigation is in the program (e.g. the addition of CemNET, LOSSEAL,
PressureNET).
4. Simulation is a primary method of predicting that the job objectives will be met. To answer Meets job objectives, the
simulation is compared to the job objective stated in question 1 (e.g. TOC at __ ft).
5. Prejob Circulation, Pump Schedule, and Post Placement operations are required components of the cement program. The
answer Defined indicates that each of these components is explicitly stated in the cement program.
6. Retarder is a key additive for achieving the required thickening time. The responder states the retarder name(s) in the
slurries and spacer (if applicable), the BHCT for the job design. The challenger must respond with Confirmed after verifying
that the BHCT is within the specification in CMM Chapter 11 (Guide to Retarders) Section 1.2. If no retarder is used, an
answer of None is acceptable for the retarder name.
7. Fluid interfaces may cause undesirable mixtures that may prematurely terminate the job. To answer All compatible, there
must be evidence that each fluid interface is compatible (mud:spacer, spacer:cement, lead:tail). Evidence is a lab test within
the previous year for that fluid interface, or that 2 or more jobs have been successfully pumped with that fluid interface. See
WS ALERT 2014-14 and WS ALERT 2013-25.
8. All fluids must be designed with additives that are within their temperature limits and with additives that are compatible.
CEMENTICS fluid design may be used to check that all cement and additives are within the temperature range and all other
parameters. No warnings means that there are no warnings from the fluid design software. Alternatively, this check could
be done by referring to the applicable sections of the Cement Materials Manual. The answer No warnings, demonstrates
that CEMENTICS Fluid Design has been used to check all additives.
9. Lab tests are critical for understanding the pump time available for each slurry, , including specific post-placement time
when required, such as, plugs or liner jobs (InTouch # 6610038). The answer states the thickening time of the lead slurry
exceeds the pump time programed for the lead slurry in the job. The reference lab test may be a pilot test or book test. A
field blend test may be referenced, but is not necessary for this checklist. The slurry must meet the Schlumberger thickening
time requirement.
10. Lab tests are critical for understanding the pump time available for each slurry, including specific post-placement time when
required, such as, plugs or liner jobs (InTouch # 6610038). The answer states the thickening time of the tail slurry exceeds
the pump time programed for the tail slurry in the job. The reference lab test may be a pilot test or book test. A field blend
test may be referenced, but is not necessary for this checklist. The slurry must meet the Schlumberger thickening time
requirement.
11. Contingency plans define the minimum volume and maximum stop time during the job. The answer confirms the minimum
volume that is clearly stated in the program. The minimum slurry volume could be the same as the program slurry volume or
it may be a smaller volume, but it must be clearly stated. For example, gauge hole, regulatory requirements, or mitigation of
remedial actions (minimum volume may be decided by ECD limits for circulating out slurry).
