a magic formula
for making current appear!
A generating set is made up of a petrol, diesel or gas powered engine and an
alternator. The engine drives the rotor of the alternator to create an alternating
current, and so produce electricity. On most models, circuit breakers protect your
equipment from surcharges or power outs caused by running out of fuel.
The heat engine
Equivalents in maximum kVA
exists in a petrol version (2 or 4 stroke, overhead

or side valves), in a diesel version with direct
injection and in a gas version.
Some manufacturers artificially increase power

by 25% (cos 0.8) in single phase operation.
We are giving you this characteristic so that you
can compare the values.
The alternators
are self-adjusting for voltage and self-exciting.
They need neither adjustment nor maintenance.
Power: clearly expressed

SDMO expresses the power of its sets in accordance
with the ISO 8528 international standard.
Minimum power rating

Some equipment requires a much higher start-up
current than the continuous current in normal
operation. This must be taken into account when
selecting a generator set.
The minimum power rating for the type of equipment
you wish to supply.
Resistive loads (synchronous motors)
eg: drills, grinders vacuum cleaners,
hedge trimmers, etc.
Minimum power rating = total equipment
rating x 1.2.
Double rating
Some three phase generator sets have oversize
alternators to provide high surge currents when the
powered equipment is started. This is particularly
advantageous when using some heavy duty equipment (eg: spraycrete machines) that require a high
start-up current.
For example 8/12 kW:
8 kW is the maximum continuous rating of the
equipment.
12 kW is the nominal power of the alternator.

Automatic idling
This causes the engine speed to drop from 3000 to 2400 rpm when
there is no power demand for 2 minutes. Result - fuel consumption
drops by around 50 % and the noise level is cut by a factor of four.

WELDARCTM welding sets are practical, easily transportable and operational in record time.
They can also be used as auxiliary generating sets for the supply of electricity.
When choosing your welding set, you have to take 3 essential criteria into account:
USE
Your choice will first of all depend on the frequency of the use you will make of your welding set.
OCCASIONAL USE
For intermittent use, you should choose a set that
welds using alternative current.
INTENSIVE USE
To weld using all types of electrodes and on highly
technical materials, you should choose a set that welds
using direct current.
TYPES OF ELECTRODE
Each welding set offers you the choice of a variety of

electrodes, which it is essential to specify before selecting
your machine.
RUTILE: an electrode for general use which is very flexible in use.

CELLULOSE: an electrode suitable for downward welding.
BASIC: an electrode for top security technical assembly. This use is recommended for parts
under significant mechanical strain. It requires welding using direct current.
The maximum diameter of the welding rods is also an important criterion
when selecting your WELDARCTM set. Do not forget to take this into account.
AUXILIARY POWER
All WELDARCTM welding sets are capable of producing current through their
auxiliary outlets. They can be used as standard electricity generating sets and the
choice of model for this function is subject to the same criteria as the other
electricity generating sets in the PORTABLE POWER range.

How to select your water pump?
1
EVALUATE THE TWO DETERMINING CRITERIA

1 - The quality of the water: water that is clear and has little sediment or
heavily sedimented water. Warning: for special liquids (sea water, liquid
fertiliser, hydrocarbons, etc.), ask for advice from your retailer.
2 - The flow and pressure required depending on the head losses.
CALCULATING THE HEIGHT OF ELEVATION

The elevation is more or less important depending on the configuration of the
installation or the application (pumping out, sprinkling, irrigation, draining,
washing). It is calculated from:
- the suction height: this is the difference in height between the level of the
water to be pumped and the axle of the pump. It cannot be greater than 8 m
(because of a law of physics).
- the discharge height: this is the difference in height between the axle
of the pump and the highest point in the network.
- the head loss: this is the resistance encountered by the water in the pipes.
It is calculated according to the length, diameter and quality of the pipes,
their shapes and the number of accessories (for general cases, we take 20%).
Height of elevation = Suction height + Height of lift + Head loss
DETERMINING THE FLOWS

The flow is determined by checking the height of elevation in metres on the curve. The flow in L/min.
may then be deduced. The remaining height determines the available pressure. This is divided by 10 to
obtain the pressure in bars. If this pressure is not enough, a more powerful model should be selected.

This high pressure pump is ideal for fire-fighting with an optional
accessory kit (page 34). It is also very effective for cleaning floors, terraces,
agricultural and construction machinery.
XC 2.34 H
The XC 2.34 H pump is especially recommended for agricultural use, particularly for pumping liquid fertiliser. Its corrosion resistant construction makes it
particularly useful for pumping salt water.
