Ethical Issues
Abusive or intimidating behavior is the most common ethical problem for
employees, but what does it mean to be abusive or intimidating?
The concept can mean anything --- physical threats, false accusations, being
annoying, profanity, insults, yelling, harshness, ignoring someone, and
unreasonableness --- and the meaning of these words can differ by person
Ethical Issues
Lying
Commission lying is creating a perception or belief by words that intentionally
deceive the receiver of the message, for example, lying about being at work
and expense report.
Conflicts of Interest
A conflict of interest exist when an individual must choose whether to
advance his or her interests, those of the organization, or those of some
other group.
To avoid conflicts of interest, employees must be able to separate their
private interests from their business dealings.
Bribery
Bribery is the practice of offering something( usually money) in order to gain
an illicit advantage.
Active corruption or active bribery meaning that the person who
promises or gives the bribe commits the offense.
Passive bribery is the offense committed by the official who receives the
bribe.
Corporate Intelligence
Corporate intelligence, like other areas in business, can be abused if due
diligence is not taken to maintain legal and ethical methods of discovery.
Hacking is considered one of the top three methods for obtaining trade

Sexual harassment can be defined as any repeated, unwanted behavior of
sexual in nature perpetrated upon one individual by another individual.
It may be verbal, visual, written, or physical and can occur between people of
different genders or those of the same sex.
Workplace display of sexually explicit material --- photos, magazines, or
posters --- may constitute a hostile work environment harassment.

Fraud
When an individual engages in deceptive practices to advance his or her own
interests over those of his or her organization or some other groups, charges
of fraud may result.
Fraud is any purposeful communication that deceives, manipulates, or
conceals facts in order to create a false impression.
Accounting Fraud
Accounting fraud usually involves a corporations financial reports in which
companies provide important information on which investors and others base
decisions that may involve millions.
If the documents contain inaccurate information, whether intentionally or not,
then lawsuits and criminal penalties may result.
Marketing Fraud
Marketing fraud --- the process of creating, distributing, promoting, and
pricing products --- is another business area that generates potential ethical
issues.
False or misleading marketing communication can destroy customers trust in
a company.
Consumer Fraud
Consumer fraud is when consumers attempt to deceive businesses for their
own gain.
Consumers engage in many forms of fraud against businesses, including
shoplifting, price tag switching, item switching and lying to obtain age
related and other discounts.
Financial Misconduct
The failure to understand and manage ethical risks played a significant role in
the financial crisis and recession of 208-2009.
While there is a difference between bad business decisions and business
misconduct, there is also a thin line between the ethics of using financial
incentives to gauge performance and the use of holistic measures that
include ethics, transparency, and responsibility to stakeholders,

Consumer advocates continue to warn consumers about new threats to their
privacy, especially within the health care and internet industries.
Voluntary Practices
It includes the beliefs, values, and voluntary contractual obligation of the
business.
Google
Google Inc. works hard to give its employees a positive work environment
through its benefit package.
In addition to being a famously great place to work, Google offices offer such
health and wellness boosting amenities as swimming pools, gyms, volleyball
courts, ping-pong tables and dances classes, the company even allows
employees to bring their dogs to work.
Most firms engage in philanthropy- - giving back to community.
Core Practices
Core practices are documented best practices, often encouraged by legal
regulatory forces as well as industry trade associations.
These practices are appropriate and common practices that help ensure
compliance with legal requirements and societal expectations.
Although these practices are not enforced, there are consequences for not
engaging in these practices when there is misconduct
