MY CUP RUNNETH OVER

Ps 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod
and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup
runneth over. (A continuing event.)
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
for ever.

I. WE CAN DEPEND ON THE LORD.

A. Every facet of His character manifests His reliability.
1. Deut 32:1-4
1 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb,
and as the showers upon the grass:
3 Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and
right is he.

2. 2 Sam 22:1-4
1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of
the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my
refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

3. Ps 62:6-8
6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

II. WE KNOW THAT THE ETERNAL GOSPEL WE RECEIVED CAME NOT FROM MAN.
A. And there is one and only one gospel.
1. Gal 1:6-12
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven , preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached
unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have
received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the
servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
B. This gospel can cause our names to be written in heaven.
1. Heb 12:22-24
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an
innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of
all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better
things than that of Abel.

2. Col 1:3-6
3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the
gospel;
6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day
ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

C. The gospel – the word of Christ – is eternal.

1. Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

III. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, WE CAN HAVE SALVATION.

A. How should we respond to His marvelous grace?
1. Ps 116:12-13 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup
of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.

2. Rom 10:8-13
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which
we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised
him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call
upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

3. Job 13:15-17 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before
him. He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. Hear diligently my
speech, and my declaration with your ears.

B. How much does God love us?

1. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2. Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
C. By Christ’s flesh and blood we are saved from our well-deserved fate.
1. John 6:47-58
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven , that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven : if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and
the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and
drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that
eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

2. Acts 2:36-41
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have
crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the
apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our
God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward
generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about
three thousand souls.

IV. THE BLESSINGS WE RECEIVE ARE IN PROPORTION TO WHAT WE GIVE.

A. How can we assure that our cup continues to “runneth over?”
1. Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together,
and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it
shall be measured to you again.

2. 2 Cor 9:6-8
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall
reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God
loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all
things, may abound to every good work:

Invitation: Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess Christ as the Son of God, Be Immersed for the
remission of sins, and then grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, remaining faithful
until death.
If you are a Christian and have sinned publicly, then you are invited to remove your
separation from God by public repentance so that prayers can be offered with you and
for you.
