NOTE:
EXPEDITED Food Assistance Benefits (Bridge Card)
If you have little or no money, or no home, you might qualify to have your Food
Assistance Program (FAP) application processed more quickly. Ask the
receptionist for the short application filing form. Complete it, sign and date it, and
TURN IT TODAY! A specialist will look at the information you have provided and
will be able to tell you whether you qualify for faster service OR if you must wait
the normal processing time.
If you have the right to faster service, you will still have to complete the entire
application form and talk with a specialist to see if you qualify for food assistance
benefits. You will also need to provide the Department with the required
documents to verify your statement AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
For quicker service, you may set up a Department of Human Services account
and apply online at www.michigan.gov/mibridges.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
Website: http://www.fns.usda.gov/tefap/emergency-food-assistance-programtefap
TEFAP offers monthly food support to eligible residents. Proof of income and
residency is required! The Program: USDA buys the food, including processing
and packaging, and ships it to the States. The amount received by each State
depends on its low-income and unemployed population. State agencies work out
details of administration and distribution. They select local organizations that
either directly distribute to households or serve meals, or distribute to other local
organizations that perform these functions. Each State sets criteria for
determining what households are eligible to receive food for home consumption.
Income standards may, at the States discretion, be met through participation in
other existing Federal, State, or local food, health, or welfare programs for which
eligibility is based on income.
