Clover Treat Blend

General Food Plot Planting Instructions

Step 1. Fertilize and lime as needed. You wont believe the difference fertilizing and liming
will make in both the attraction and production of your food plot. If the pH is lower than 5.8
(which it probably is if pines grow in the area) lime will greatly help. You can fertilize almost
anything and make it more attractive to deer, but if you fertilize a desirable food plot, the
difference can be astounding.
Step 2. Control competing weeds and grass. Weeds greatly reduce yield,
utilization and the life expectancy of perennial plots. Thorough disking before planting and/
or the use of roundup will do wonders. One application will kill most weeds and grasses.
Make a full coverage application being sure to thoroughly wet plant surfaces. For areas
where renovation and reseeding is desired, make a thorough coverage. Treated area
should begin to turn brown within 7 days, than reseed as desired.
Step 3. Prepare your seedbed well. Make sure it is thoroughly disked, clean, and level.
Good seed-to-soil contact when planting is imperative. The quality of your food plot will
reflect the quality of your farming effort. Think of the seedbed as the foundation on which
youre building your food plot house.
Step 4. Choose the right seed for your soils, climate and purpose. Decide what you want
your plot to accomplish and pick just the right thing for your job. Your food plot will be no
better than what you put in the ground.
Step 5. Time your planting for optimum success. You need to plant when the
temperature and moisture are right for your crop. Planting too late or too early can cost
production and maybe even the crop.
Step 6. Plant at the right depth. Big seeds like cereal grains can be planted an inch or
more deep. Small seeds like clovers and chicory, cant push through much soil and must
be planted a half an inch deep or less.
Step 7. Plant sufficient acreage for the deer you are feeding. If getting nutrition to the
deer is the goal, youve got to have good production and plenty of acreage. If your plot is
mowed down to the ground and looks like a golf course, you probably dont have enough
acreage in plots. You need visible standing crop to feed deer. Generally that will take
about 1 acre of plot for every 3 deer feeding on it.

Gamebird Feast consists of 50% grasses, 25%
clover and 25% alfalfa.
Works great for cover or grazing.

Sugar Beets

Ideal for wildlife food plots!

Deer love both the foliage and the roots.
Turns into candy for deer after first frost.
Grows well alone or as an additive with
other MonsterBuck mixes.
Grow best on soils with a pH of 6.0 to 8.0.
Performs best if seeded with a grain drill.

Turnips
Turnips are both cold-hardy and droughttolerant.
Can be planted late, even as a second
crop, and provide high quality grazing late
in the fall.
Turnips planted in July will provide grazing
from September to November.
Foilage maintains nutritional quality after
repeated exposure to frost.

Forage Radish
Radishes are a type of brassica that
attract wildlife in certain areas.
May be seeded alone or top dressed with

This brassica grows best in warmer
weather and light soil.

Tolerates a low pH.

Canola (Rape)
Attracts all types of wildlife, even bears.
In late fall after the first deep freeze of
the year, a chemical reaction occurs
where all the starch in the plant turns to
sugar, making canola candy to the wildlife.
Canola is a major wildlife attractant.
Canola contains both high oil content as
well as high protein content.
Longevity: Annual.

Chicory
Excellent for antler growth.
Protein levels range from 10% to 32%
depending on growth stage and soil
fertility.

Wildlife Seed Corn

Medium Red Clover

Medium red clover is the most widely grown of
the true clovers.
The plants are highly nutritious and palatable
both as pasture and hay.
Superior wear tolerance and very high
recuperative ability.
Grows under a wide variety of soil conditions
from full sun to light shade.
Grows best between soil pH 6.0-7.0.
Good winter hardiness with fair drought
tolerance.
Is a cool season legume.

White Dutch Clover

Grows about four to eight inches high.
Provides nitrogen, eliminating the need to fertilize.
Stays green through droughty periods of summer.
Low growing and green through the summer
droughty period, it provides nitrogen for the
grasses in the lawn.
Tolerates low mowing well.
