CASSANDRA
The Princess of Troy
II.)

III.)

Introduction:
Cassandra was the mortal daughter of the last king of
Troy, King Priam and his wife Queen Hecuba. The
legend held that King Priam had 50 sons and 50
daughters. Out of all these daughters, she was seen as
the most beautiful one. Cassandra was not an oracle,
she could not see into the future. But she is a beautiful
young priestess, with great ambition.
Apollo and Cassandra:
Apollo enjoyed visiting the temple at Delphi. He enjoyed
visiting all the temples that had been built in his honor. One
day, he heard about a splendid temple that had been built in
the city-state of Troy. Apollo heard great things about the
temple in Troy that had been built in his honor.
Being a curious god, Apollo decided to take a look at the
temple at Troy for himself.
When Apollo swung by personally to take a look at his
temple, all Cassandra saw was his beauty and his power.
She gave him a saucy grin.
Apollo was delighted. Like all the gods, Apollo was very
fond of making deals. He offered a deal to Cassandra. If
she would give a kiss, he would give her the gift of
prophecy so she could see into the future.
Cassandra did not hesitate. She took the deal. As soon as
Apollo gave her the gift of prophecy, what she saw made

her gasp; she can finally see the future and become a
Prophetess.
IV.)

Rejection and Curse:

When Apollo asked her to be his consort, she rejected
himmaking Apollo feel rejected and betrayed. He
then later sought revenge, he took away Cassandra's
confidence in her predictions. Through his curse,
although her insights had cultural and spiritual
import, no one believed or heeded her.
Helen saw all the happening but is too afraid to get
close to them. So after Apollo had left, she helped her.
But Cassandra foresaw that she would be the cause of
Trojan War.
Dialogue:
Cassandra: Helen, that girl! She will be the cause of
great war and the fall of Troy!
Trojan Woman (1): That is unbelievable Princess.
How could such a beautiful and kind girl be cause to
war?
Trojan Woman (2): How could she say that? She is
crazy.
She was marginalized and called "crazy."

V.)

Trojan War:
At the time where Trojans were celebrating for their
victory from the battle against Greeks, there came a
beautifully made horse. Cassandra had foreseen that
the Greek warriors are hiding in the Trojan horse.
They disbelieved her, calling her names and degrading
her with insults.

Dialogue:
Cassandra: The Greek warriors are hiding inside
that horse! I had foreseen it!
Warriors: Nonsense! Get away you crazy woman!
She then looked around to find something that will
destroy the horse. She found an axe, grabbed it and
ran towards the Trojan Horse, to destroy it herself.
The Trojans stopped her before she could do so and
dragged her away.
Midnight came and while the Trojans were drunk and
tired from their feasting, the Greek warriors came out
from the horse and killed the Trojans without any fear
or mercymen or women they were all killed.
VI.)

Ending:
Cassandras wondrous blessing bestowed upon her
became a terrible curse for her. Her vigorous outcries
against patriarchal conventions began to bear
consequences; she was isolated. Depressed and alone,
Cassandra went "mad."
VII.)Closing:
Once again Cassandra, the Princess of Troy.
