Career Opportunities in the Creative Industry

Students of the Hölderlin School explore Stuttgart’s agencies within their proje
ct „Life Skills“
Stuttgart, Germany, April 09, 2010 -- On March 31, the ninth grade of the Hölder
lin School in Stuttgart visited the Public Relations agency oha communication an
d the design bureau Engenhart. 21 students had a browse through the agencies, ca
ught up on career opportunities in the media business and discussed with the exp
erts about useful skills for a career in the creative industry. The trip took pl
ace the second year in row. The school subject “Life Skills” has been establishe
d to prepare young people for their life and work.
Media companies and agencies offer many interesting professions for young people
. According to a study on behalf of the Business Development Department of the S
tate Capital of Baden-Württemberg, 4,182 creative companies with 22,000 employee
s were situated in Stuttgart in 2009. For the people in Stuttgart, this branch i
s an important and promising economic factor.
„It is important, that young people get practical insights at an early stage,” e
xplains graphic designer Marc Engenhart. „That
increases the chance for young people to choose the profession that suits best.
We try to briefly describe our jobs with all
banalities and tasks. We want the students to understand, for whom a career in o
ur field could be of interest.” „In agencies, creativity is often less related t
o art. It rather describes the ability to address challenges and create benefits
for the customer,” explains Oliver Hahr, PR consultant und founder of oha commu
nication. „Curiosity and the determination to get things accomplished are the mo
st important skills. As an agency for international communication, we also value
language and intercultural skills.”
The visit at the agencies was part of the school subject „Life Skills“. It was l
aunched at the Hölderlin School Stuttgart three
years ago in order to prepare the youngsters for their life and work. In grade f
ive and six, for example, the focus lies on road
safety education and nutrition. In grade nine, the career preparation begins. Th
e students practice job interviews, arrange their application documents and visi
t various companies in the region of Stuttgart.
