Program Description

Op.9 No.1 by Chopin, a Nocturne. 'Chopin Nocturne Op.9 No.1 in B flat minor, is a Nocturne
composed by Frdric Chopin in around 1830 to 1832. This is a beautiful Nocturne with the
main characteristic of Chopin's later work, rhythmic freedom, as regular arpeggios in the left
hand appear accompanying the right hand free rhythm throughout the piece. Although being
less well known than Op.9 No.2, it sometime appears as background music due to its stunning
melody in the beginning.'

Piece: A Maidens Prayer by Tekla Bdarzewska

A Maidens Prayer, or Molitwa Dziewicy, a piano work for amateurs, composed by a self-taught
teenage female Polish musician Tekla Bdarzewska, is probably the biggest selling piece of
piano music ever written. The sentimental piece is essentially a set of four variations of which
the theme consists of a series of harp-like rising broken chords, arguably the sole relatively
challenging part, answered by stepwise descending lines. The result is an unabashedly
romantic melody which makes few pieces since its maiden appearance in the mid-nineteenth
century being played in as many homes as is this work.

Introduction:
Fantaisie Impromptu in C sharp minor of Chopin was composed in 1834. Chopin was a Polish
composer of the romantic period. The piece was dedicated to Chopin's close friend, Julian
Fontana, who was also a Polish pianist. The song was published after the death of Chopin.
It is Allegro agitato in the beginning of the song which consists of light-hearted melody. It turns
to Largo and Moderato cantabile after the first part of the song, which gives a harmonious
feeling to the song. Finally, the song returns to Allegro agitato again and finishes with a quiet

Beethoven Flute Sonata. The impromptus are one of the most popular works written by
Schubert, it has been said that Schubert was deeply influenced in writing these pieces by the
Impromptus, Op. 7 (1822) of Jan Vclav Voek and by the music of Voek's teacher Vclav
Tomek. The harmonic progression by in this piece is elegantly arranged, which gives a vivid
picture of how Schubert accept the fate and let the life be as it is.
