AB2000 CAREER FOUNDATIONS II

Course Description and Scope


This course prepares you for your internship (Professional Attachment) from sourcing to
interviews and professional behavior at the workplace.
For all five lessons of AB2000, it is compulsory to come dressed in office attire as if you
are attending a job interview. The trainer will be giving you value-added reviews of
your attire.
Lesson One:
Craft a cutting edge resume and cover letter in NBS CareerFIT (job and event portal); Your
Brand and Social Media; Online applications
Lesson Two:
Self-source-CareerFIT Professional Attachments; The interviewing process; Effective
Communication; Types of interview questions; Interviewing 201
Lesson Three:
Elevator Pitch; Work Ethics; EQ at work; Attending events; Interview practice
Personal Branding (PB) Class: (Location: Personal Imaging Center (PIC)-S3-B3C)
Personality analysis: Know who you are and your strengths
Professional Imaging: Visual image; Dressing right; Review on your business attire,
accessories; The finished total look.
Networking skills (NS) Class: (Location: Personal Imaging Center (PIC)-S3-B3C)
Body Language: Creating rapport, facial expressions and gestures
Build up your networking skills; Maximize time with recruiters on/off campus; Small talk;
How to seize opportunities to increase your contacts for your career.

Dress code
Males : Business Suit (if you have, pls wear it or bring it along)
Long sleeved shirt (Light colour)
Tie and belt
Leather shoes, dress socks
Pen, document bag (briefcase)

Females: Two piece skirt suit
Three piece Skirt, jacket, blouse/knit wear inside
Skirt and blouse

Accessories for work wear eg. watch, pearl necklace, earring/ear studs

Course Aim
The course aims to make you more career-savvy by highlighting what top employers want
from graduates. From the combination class discussions, mock interviewing practice and
hands on approach in enhancing your own resume and cover letter, you will have a good idea
of what is required when you go for your PA. This will enable you to project a more
confident, self-assured and professional image so that NBS students become the interns of
choice.

Note:
*Students have to submit their assignment (resume and cover letter) in NTULearn after
Lesson 3 (within 8 days inclusive of the day of your lesson 3).
Example: if your Lesson 3 is on Monday, 25 Jan 16, the submission deadline is on 01 Feb16
at 2359hrs. Instructions are provided in the course slides (Lesson 1 and Lesson 3).
Medical certificate must be submitted to NBS Undergraduate Programmes Office (UPO)
located at S3-B3a within 7 days of your registered class should you be unable to attend the
lesson.
Students who do not fulfill the course requirements will be graded fail. You will have to
retake the course until you pass.

Students who are late by 15 minutes for classes will be marked absent.
