Alcatel-Lucent 7705 Service Aggregation Router

7705 SAR-M DSL Modules

The Alcatel-Lucent 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) integrated DSL modules for the 7705 SAR-M
provide strategic options for network operators with access to copper pairs in order to provide DSL
connectivity for business services or mobile backhaul (MBH) applications that are making use of ADSL2,
ADSL2+, SHDSL or VDSL2.
There are two DSL modules available on the 7705 SAR-M:
An xDSL Module that supports eight copper pairs that are using ADSL2, ADSL2+ or VDSL2 connectivity
with 8-pair PTM bonding
A DSL Combination Module (DCM) that provides six copper pairs four pairs for G.SHDSL with PTM
bonding and two pairs for ADSL2, ADSL2+ or VDSL2 with ATM or PTM bonding
The modules support in-service insertion and removal, and are temperature hardened.

Physical layer synchronization is supported

on both modules via Network Timing
Reference (NTR), which is supported over
ADSL2+, SHDSL and VDSL2. NTR can then
be used as a timing reference for T1/E1
ports, SyncE, sync out, 1588 Master Clock
or in conjunction with Differential Clock
Recovery (DCR).
Multi-pair bonding support is essential when
comparing backhaul alternatives. With up
to 8-pair bonding over VDSL2, operators
have the alternative to provide new services
to existing subscribers, allowing copper to
remain competitive with cable or fiber, as
well as extending coverage in order to reach
more subscribers

Features and benefits

Integrated DSL on the 7705 SAR-M
allows for:
High-capacity Ethernet aggregation over
copper within an integrated 1RU box,
thereby reducing footprint and improving
deployment options
A single cost-optimized solution for highdensity T1/E1 delivery via GPON with up
to 16 T1/E1 ports with advanced OAM
An effective means of delivering native
ATM, Frame Relay, HDLC, TDM or Ethernet
business services expanding legacy
offerings over an IP/MPLS infrastructure
Flexible architecture deployments using IP,
MPLS and/or Ethernet for backhaul
