yourinstrumentandinitiatethissameseesawactionthroughaslightdippingmotionintheupper
armasitactivelyswingsintowardthefrog.Tokeepthebowstraight,makesuretokeeparelaxed
wrist,whichwillnaturallybendontheupbowandflattenoutonthedownbowtocounterthe
upperarmmotionfromtheshoulder.
5)NowPutItAllTogether
Itmightseemthattousetheentirebow,onecouldsimplystringtogetherthemotionsrequiredof
eachsection.However,forfluidityandeventone,itsbettertotaketheoppositeapproach.The
motionforafullbowstrokemustbeintegratedandcontinuous.Playingwithlessbowutilizes
portionsofthismovement.Youshouldalwaysbeabletoexpandashortstrokeintoafullbow
lengthandviceversa.
Becausemaintaininggoodtonethroughouttheentirebowlengthcanbechallenging,firstmaster

playinginallthefourthsorthirdsofyourbow,spreadoutfromtheseregionsintohalfandthree
quarterbowlengthsuntilfinallyyouhavemasteredconsistenttonethroughouttheentire
continuumofrightarmmotion.Thoughyoullprobablyfindthatcertainareasofthebowareeasier
toplayininitially,gettingintothehabitofjustusingthesameareaofthebowallthetimegreatly
limitsyourexpressiverange.
