INTRODUCTION
According to UKEJE, 1984. Teaching means imparting

factual knowledge to the

learners. Teaching can also be defined as interaction which involves many activities
between teacher and the learners and it occur when one person

consciously and

enthusiastically accept the learning of another person who assume to be more

knowledgeable than the learner. Therefore Teaching practice refers to the period where
Students Teacher from Teachers training colleges or Institutions of higher Education are
attached to particular schools to Practice Teaching.
Objectives of teaching of teaching practice; Teaching practice offer the student
teacher the opportunities to put into practice the ideas, skills and attitude learnt
theoretical and in the classroom in order to become competent. Furthermore, teaching
practice

give the students teacher the opportunities to have self evaluation , gain

confidence, acquire deep knowledge of the subject content and to benefit from the
constructive criticisms of their organises supervisors.
Further still teaching practice will build in student teachers skills in handling
issues and things especially laboratory equipment or working tools in workshop ,typing
or computer pool also, knowledge that is gotten through teaching practice will hardly
be forgotten, so students teachers will understand better when they are out for a
teaching practice experience

-Establish a contact with the learners
-Capture their interest and sustain it
-Link previous lesson with present lesson
According to him; Student teachers will face on the following challenges during the
teaching practice:
-The size of classes was to be a problem as our schools today are over crowed and practicing
teachers had not yet been used to this.
-Instructional materials like textbooks and teaching aides was going to be a problem also.
-Diversity of students could make classroom management and control difficult.
-Drawing lesson plans and going to mark or correct before drawing the original copy was
equally going to be a problem.
-Inflexibilities of some mentors or cooperating teachers as some of them at times are very
wicked
Second presentation: classroom management presented by M. TEGHA John
He recommended that adolescence is a group of strong people and practicing teachers
should utilize the excess energy they have by causing them to work academically.
Guide their inquisitiveness and curiosity to bring out knowledge. Motivate and praise the
learners.
Prepare your lessons very well before delivering them. Asked your self this questions
before you begin a lesson
- Where are your learners going to?
-How are they going to get there?
-How will you know if they have arrived?
-Improvise for your learners.

LESSONS OBSERVED
My observation started on Wednesday 1st of February 2012 where I observed my
cooperating teacher in form 2 A.C.R teaching before my observation. On the day of my
observation ,I sad behind the class when my cooperating teacher finished explaining the
points he copies the notes on the chalk board so the class was from 7:30am to 9:10am, the
practice took place from 10:00am to 3:00pm and after the class he told me that tomorrow I
will teach the technology in form 3 A.C.R. Which was my class but technology was no my
subject, so I was confused because I did not know that I was to teach that lesson. So the lesson
was no prepare, then I told my cooperative teacher and he gave me the notes. At the end of
the class my cooperating teacher asked me few questions by phone. This was because he
travelled at Yaound. So wanted to know how was the classroom? How was the behaviour of
students toward me and the lesson? I answer him better, I tried my best to well manage the
class and verify that the lesson was well taught in other to see my errors and avoid those
errors next time.
SECOND WEEK OF TEACHING PRACTICE FROM 06TH TO 12TH FEBRUARY
On Monday 6th February 2012 I arrived to school at 07:30am I attended the
assembly. After, I went in form 3 A.C.R with my cooperating teacher to observe my colleague
comes from E.N.I.E.T, during his lesson my cooperative teacher notes the negative point and
told me. I took the A.C.R 3 students from 9:10 to 10:50am, we greeted each other and they
presented themselves. We discussed about the previous lesson and I introduced the new lesson
which was the THEMODYNAMICS. My cooperating teacher sat at the bottom of the class
to observe me how I am teaching. I did not finish the chapter that day but I gave the
assignment concerning this part of the chapter. At 10:50am I ended the class, my cooperating

started to teach my lesson on the CONDENSER. The duration of each lesson was 120
minutes. After each lesson, I gave them assignments and this Was for the following
reasons;
To occupy students at home.
To prepare them for the fourth sequence test.
It is important to note that, most of the students in both classes felt under the category of
imaginative and analytical learners that is they perceive information completely and
process it by reflecting. Most of their questions were; why are this like this? Or what is
this?
After the lesson on technology, I started the practical lesson on the switch. That day we
saw the commutator five. In class room I gave the function, the symbol, the architectural
diagram, the developed diagram and the wire line diagram. I divided the class by six groups of
the three students and asked at each group to draw the cabling diagram and materials used. In
workshop I gave the correct cabling diagram and materials used to achieve the diagram. The
result statistic was following table.

III- EXTRA-CIRRUCULAR ACTIVITIES

OPEN DOOR DAY IN G.T.H.S. Bamenda Nkwen
The open door day in each school, is the occasion permit at all the department existing
in school to present at the public their talents , the things learn and do in school .this day is
some special day because student present their talents about the things which learn in school.
This year is special in the North West region because the minister came open the open door in
G.T.H.S. Bamenda. In air conditioning department, we prepare many appliances such as:
presentation of four based elements in air conditioning and refrigeration, welcome at G.T.H.S.
Bamenda Nkwen, the electrical diagram of the cold store. My participation in this activity was

on to prepare the students for achievement of these installations and preparing them how to
explain.

SURPERVISION OF THE FOURTH SEQUENCE S EXAMS

The fourth sequence exams started on Monday 05th March 2012and ended on Friday
09th March 2012. I convened to supervise the examination. I supervise from 5 th to 6th March.
My subject passed Wednesday 7th March. The objectives of the exam were to test for
comprehension, analysis and synthesis. From the above undertaken, it is important to note that
as a whole, every thing when on smoothly with no great incident, despite the fact that, some
students tried to copy from their neighbors especially in form 3 A.C.R. Never the less, I
notice some negligence by some teachers who were suppose to be in these classes
mention above to carry out their duties, but for one reason or the other, they could not
make it. Besides, I gain a lot of experience especially in the techniques in setting
questions, that is, by making use of Blooms Taxonomy of education.

According to

Bloom, questions are categorized that is low standard in lower classes like form 2 A.C.R
and high standard questions in higher classes. While in higher classes the format of the
questions should be essay type. I also learn how to come out with the time allocation when
setting the exam by either pre testing or answering the questions before administering them
to the students.

IV-

DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED

The very first problem faced was financial problem since I was supposed to buy
all my didactic materials used; I was supposed to type all my lessons as instructed
by my cooperating teacher and even for exam questions. Also because I had to go
to my cooperating teacher every weekends to correct my lessons.
Most students did not have prescribed text book thus making it difficult for me
to control assignments.
Poor nature of chalkboard whish was not completely darkened.
Lack of tables and chairs in class for teachers to put their didactic materials.

Written by DJOGUE Bertin

Page 11

Report of practical pedagogic examination carried out in G.T.H.S Bamenda Nkwen

Sizes of offices were extremely small with no shelves hence documents were
deposited and kept on tables.
The problem of air conditioning and refrigeration workshop.
The time allocation for each lesson was too small making time management
a problem. Added to that, some student teacher did not manage their time
correctly causing the next teacher to bear the consequences.
Lack of communication between the National Pedagogic Inspector, Regional
Pedagogic Inspector and the school authorities on the school program, because
this result in the National Pedagogic Inspector, Regional Pedagogic Inspector
evaluating some student teachers on a day students were not in school or when
they were writing exams.
There was not restaurant or canteen in or around the school premises; this made
some teachers and student teachers who had classes morning and afternoon to
feel weak during the afternoon classes.
During exams, some teachers where not there to invigilate even when their names
were in the roster. Also most questions were not typed, all these created a spirit of
doubt in the credibility of the exam results.

V - RECOMMENDATIONS
PROPOSED SOLUTION TO G.T.H.S. AUTHORITES
The workshop of air conditioning and refrigeration should be built thus, to give at
the students the opportunity to make the practice
A canteen should be built in or around the school so that students and teachers
can energize themselves before teaching or learning. But this should only open
during break period.
An electrical bell should be restored in school so that based on the system put in,
it will ring after certain duration and this will prevent conflicts among teachers.
They should be a constant communication between the school authorities and the

National Pedagogic Inspector and Regional Pedagogic Inspector on the school time
table; this will help the students to maximize their chances during evaluation since
their classes will be full and active.
The school should have a type writer to type all exam questions rather than writing
them on the chalk board. Also student teachers should be given incentives for
invigilation so as to motivate them.

VI-

CONCLUSION

Teaching practice is a very important activity to all the institutions of colleges of

Education. This is because the experience achieved during teaching practice is very important
from the beginning it was not easy but in the end I did enjoy the exercise and even wanted to
remain teaching as the students never wanted me to go when the exercise was coming to an
end. However students teachers without teaching practice it is like some body without focus
in life, I really like to thank those who introduce the system of education in Cameroon,
because without it most people will find difficult to interact with each other.
