Task 6. Communicative activities by Arabela de la Nuez Cruz

First of all we work the vocabulary with images, matching the word
with short sentences. After this activity a pair of students will have
the same text but with different missing words. They have to ask
each other to find out the missed word.
We also can divide the text in two pars to have two different pairs of
students.
Suggestions & variation
If the activity is too complicated in this way we can give to them the
questions with the answers, and they can do a speed dating.
The speed dating consists in two rows of chairs, one in front of the
other. The student A1 sits in front of the student B1,and the A2 sits
in front of B2. They will ask each other a question (two different
questions), both have the answer.
When they have finished, the student A2 sits in front another
student, move one position in the row of chair.

Energy is a property of matter. Energy is the ability to do work.

Energy comes in different forms:

Heat (thermal)
Light (radiant)
Motion (kinetic)
Electrical
Chemical
Nuclear energy
Gravitational

People use energy for everything from making a jump shot to

sending astronauts into space.

There are two types of energy:

Stored (potential) energy

Working (kinetic) energy

Kinetic Energy
Kinetic Energy is energy that is in motion. Moving water and wind
are good examples of kinetic energy. Electricity is also kinetic
energy because even though you can't see it happen, electricity
involves electrons moving in conductors.

Potential Energy
Energy is measured in the amount of "work" it does. Potential
Energyis stored energy. Examples of potential energy are oil sitting
in a barrel, or water in a lake in the mountains. This energy is
referred to as potential energy, because if it were released, it would
do a lot of work.
Energy can change from one form to another. A good example is a
Roller Coaster. When it is on its way up, it is using kinetic energy
since the energy is in motion. When it reaches the top it has
potential (or stored) energy. When it goes down the hill it is using
kinetic energy again.

For example, the food a person eats contains chemical energy, and
a person's body stores this energy until they use it during work or
play.
Energy sources can be categorized as renewable or nonrenewable
When people use electricity in their homes, the electrical power was
probably generated by burning coal, by a nuclear reaction, or by a
hydroelectric plant on a river, to name just a few sources. Therefore,
coal, nuclear, and hydro are called energy sources.
Energy sources are divided into two groups:
Renewable (an energy source that can be easily replenished)
Nonrenewable (an energy source that cannot be easily recreated)

There are five main renewable energy sources:

Solar energy from the sun, which can be turned into electricity and
heat
Wind energy
Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth
Biomass from plants, which includes firewood from trees, ethanol
from corn, and biodiesel from vegetable oil
Hydropower from hydroelectric turbines
