Praying for Vocations

Praying for vocations is so important in todays world.
A vocation is a gift. Our prayers give those being called
to the priesthood or religious life the courage and strength
to say yes!
The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest to send out
laborers for his harvest. (Luke 10:2)
Please come and pray for vocations the 1st Wednesday of
the month, February 3rd, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel.
Benediction and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
begins @ 6pm. There is reading material for prayer in the
chapel. Please stop by and ask God to help someone who
is discerning His call.

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CALLED TO BE HOLY THROUGH MERCY

My dear parish family:

A new year is here; a new opportunity to show our heavenly
Father that through his Spirit we received in Baptism we can
show the tenderness of Jesus mercy to the world.
Responding to Pope Francis call taken from the Bible: Be
merciful as your heavenly Father is merciful (Lk 6:36), we
have already started the first of 12 PMOs (Parish Monthly
Outreach) last December. I ask you to please keep track
every month in the bulletin of the upcoming PMO. You
really make a difference when you show up. Not only do
you build us all up at SJN but also you touch the heart of
someone in need.
Also during Lent I am asking all parishioners to read and
reflect on a wonderful booklet entitled The Holy Year of
Mercy (YOM), published by the Word Among Us. It is an
excellent resource recommended by Archbishop
Gustavo. You can do this individually or in a small group to
get the most out of it. If you belong to the small faith
community program Longing for the Holy (LFH), that can
be your YOM group also. If you dont, that is ok.
We can form small faith communities only for the purpose of
reflecting on the 8 sessions proposed by the YOM booklet
without any further commitment. Ideally I would ask the
YOM communities to meet 4 times in the Spring (more
specifically during Lent, if possible), and 4 times in the Fall
(Sept-Nov). This is going to be the standard pace for the
YOM program. If any group wishes to do all the 8 sessions
without any breaks that would be fine too. Just be attentive to
the times in the year when well be called to gather all
together in praise and worship.
Due to the celebration of this Jubilee of Mercy the pace for
the LFH communities has changed somewhat. We no
longer have to conclude in March this season started last
September and entitled Christian Morality, as was
originally planned, but we can finish anytime later in the
Spring. Each group is free to decide on their own how they
wish to incorporate the YOM program with the LFH, but not
every LFH group is expected to do the YOM program; only
if they wish. Our next LFH season on Prayer will begin in
the Spring of 2017.
We will be giving further notices, clarifications and
announcements in the near future. For now let us rejoice that
our Catholic faith is so rich and fulfilling. It meets all our
needs while challenging us to continue walking that extra
mile for our brothers and sisters in need. I personally thank
you for following your baptismal call of love and service
because by doing so we can all experience more easily the
tender mercy of Gods holy servant, our Lord Jesus Christ.
May God bless you and your loved ones!
Fr. Octavio
Let us continue to pray for rain
wherever it is needed!

Mercy is the heart of God, It must
also be the heart of the members of the
one great family of his children: a heart
which beats all the more strongly
wherever human dignityas a
reflection of the face of God in his
creaturesis in play. Pope Francis

1 Haven for Hope Way, San Antonio, Texas 78207

Februarys Parish Monthly Outreach - Project of Mercy
will be on February 20, from 9am to 12pm at Haven for
Hope.
For those that havent heard or know what this organization
does, its mission is to offer a place of hope and new
beginnings. They do this by providing, coordinating and
delivering an efficient system of care for people experiencing
homelessness in Bexar County. It is made up of two major
programs: the Courtyard and the Transformational Campus.
The Courtyard is a low-barrier safe sleeping program that
offers shelter and basic needs. The Transformational Campus
is a center that offers services and shelter with an emphasis
toward addressing the root causes of homelessness.
Please join us in being a witness to mercy by working
together and accomplishing our special acts of mercy
projects. The projects consist of Campus Beautification
which basically means picking up trash and litter around the
Transformational Campus. The other project will be cleaning
the sleeping mattresses used throughout the Courtyard.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
If you would like to volunteer, please call/text me @ (210)
845-6695 or email me at salnsonia@hotmail.com. You can
also call the Parish Office at 654-1643 to volunteer.
We will meet in the front parking lot of SJN between 8
8:15am; and then all caravan and/or carpool to Haven for
Hope.
Lets all encourage one another, our family and friends, each
of our brothers and sisters sitting next to us at Mass to heed
the call and participate in this Year of Mercy.
We hope to see many of you on Saturday, February 20!
Thank you and God bless us all on our journey of
conversion.
Your Brother in Christ,
Salvador Ordorica

Mass with Anointing of the Sick

If you have an upcoming surgery with total
anesthesia or have serious health issues such as
cancer, a heart or a lung condition, or you are older
than 80 years old who have not received the
sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick within the last year.
You are invited to a Mass with the Anointing of the Sick on
Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11:30AM in the Church. We
will have ushers to help accommodate those who come to be
anointed, especially the physically disabled. Everyone can find
spiritual healing and some will find bodily healing as well. This
is exactly what the sacrament of the Anointing does; it brings
about the forgiveness of sins, peace surrender and in some
cases, the bodily ailment disappears. I hope this Mass will help
connect us and all the sick of the world more deeply, making us
feel truly part of the Communion of Saints.
Lord, in your loving mercy, please send the Holy Spirit
with the Gift of Healing upon these servants who are in
need of strength, guidance and mercy.
