Course Description:
This is an advanced level course in the specialization of spinning for acquiring
Bachelors degree of Textile Engineering. Spinning especially short staple
spinning is an old tradition dating back to many centuries. It was one of the
oldest crafts to be mechanized centuries ago. Even the present spinning
technology is almost more than 100 years old. During the last 100 years
modernization in the present spinning techniques as well as development of
newer systems of yarn manufacturing have been achieved. All those efforts
were aimed at either improvement in quality or increase in productivity. This
course pertains to such developments in spinning system which have
contributed a lot in the previous century and are still of importance.
Course Outcome:
After completion of the course, students will understand the objectives of
newer spinning techniques and advancements in conventional systems of
yarn manufacturing. Moreover students will be able to
Describe which techniques are aimed at improvement in quality or
productivity
Describe the improvement in properties of material using such
techniques
Describe the various types of advanced spinning systems
Compare the merits and demerits of different advanced spinning
systems
Compare the quality of yarns produced using different advanced
spinning systems
