NCEA Level 1

Course Description:
This course extends and develops students mathematical experiences of the three strands of the New
Zealand Curriculum.
Topics include trigonometry, geometry, algebra, probability and statistics. Use of technology is expected
where appropriate and the use of graphic calculators is encouraged
This course has a total of 19 Achievement Standard credits: 3 Internal credits and 16 External
credits.

Prerequisites for Level 2 Statistics


15 credits in Level 1 Mathematics. Students must have achieved Chance and Data AS 1.12.

Prerequisites for Level 2 Mathematics


19 credits at Level 1 Mathematics with Merit grades in Algebra AS 1.2 and Tables, Equations and
Graphs AS 1.3.

Prerequisites for IB Higher Level Mathematics


Year 1 IB Mathematics (SL) in Year 11. Consideration will also be given to high-achieving students who
have achieved at
least Merit grades in all Level 1 Mathematics achievement standards and Excellence grades in AS 1.2
and 1.3.

Prerequisites for IB Standard Level Mathematics


19 credits in Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standards, with Merit grades in at least two of the
externally assessed
Achievement Standards. Students must have gained Merit grades or better in AS 1.2 and AS 1.3.

Prerequisites for IB Studies Level Mathematics


15 credits in Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standards. Students entering this course will not
normally have met the
requirements for the Mathematics (Standard Level) course.
