Danish/Vietnamesepianist,composerandproducerNielsLanDokyhasnowdecidedtoreturntohis
rootsbymakingitafirstprioritytotourwithhisjazztriowhichinitsnewesteditioncomprisesthe
FrenchbassistPierreBoussaguetandthelegendaryDanishdrummerAlexRiel(seeseparatemini
bios).NielsLanDoky(age43)hasreleasedatotalof26albumsasaleadertodate,onleadingjazz
labelssuchasMilestone,BlueNote,Verve,ColumbiaandKeystone/VideoArtsMusic.InthelinernotesofNielsLanDoky's
1986debutalbum"HereorThere"(Storyville),DanMorgenstern(InstituteofJazzStudiesatRutgersUniversity,NewJersey,
USA)wrote:"ThereisnothingmoreencouragingandsatisfyingthantoencounterforthefirsttimeayoungJazzmusicianof
realstature,someonewhocanmakeyoufeelthatthefutureofthemusicisingoodhands.Therecannotbetheslightest
doubtthatDoky'stalentisofrealsignificancethatrarethingintheJazzofourtime,anoriginalvoiceinthegreattradition."
Alreadyattheageof15,NielsLanDokybeganworkingwithThadJonesandotherbignamesinJazz."Someofthemost
inspirationalandinfluentialpeopleinmylifehavebeenthemanyexpatriateAmericanjazzartistslivinginDenmarkthatIhad
thefortunetomeetasIwasgrowingup.JazzgeniusessuchasThadJones,ErnieWilkins,KennyDrew,EdThigpenand
manymorewerelivingandplayingaroundCopenhagenandhadanenormousimpactonthelocalmusicscene."Denmark's

NielsLanDokyfollowedtheadviceofThadJonesandmovedtotheUSAwherehe(afterfirststudyingatBerkleeCollegeof
MusicinBoston)wentontoestablishhimselfinNewYorkperformingwiththeeliteoftheAmericanjazzscene(Joe
Henderson,GaryPeacock,JackDeJohnette,RayBrown,RandyandMichaelBrecker,DavidSanborn,AlFoster,BillyHart,
JohnScofield,JohnAbercrombie,BillEvans,BobBerg,TomHarrell,RayDrummond,AlJarreau,CharlieHaden,Gino
Vannelli,etc.)inadditiontoleadinggroupsunderhisownnameintopNewYorkjazzclubssuchastheVillageVanguard,the
BlueNoteandSweetBasil.Inrecentyears,NielsLanDokyhasbeenbasedoutofParis,Francewhichbymanyis
consideredtobetheJazzcenterofEuropetoday.Today,manyyearsandmanyalbumslater,thecriticsremainasconvinced
aseveraboutNielsLanDoky'ssignificanceasajazzartist(excerptsofrecent2005pressquotes):"ThisDanishpianistisone
