: Youth as the tie that binds South Korea and Philippines

Youth are often referred to as the hope for a brighter future for we are filled with
idealism, enthusiasm and fresh, raw ideas. True enough, this vitality and energy has
become the catalyst for various movements and causes. The youth has proven many
times over that together we can make a difference. And our voices can be loud enough
to be heard by the international communities. More so, we can strengthen the bond of
both countriesSouth Korea and Philippines more than it has ever been through deeper
involvement with the use of broader medium.
Cultural immersions
I was first exposed to Korean culture when I was a grade schooler. Korean
Taekwondo students went to our school for demonstration. It was a very memorable
encounter. I have made friends despite the fact that we are speaking different languages.
We even played Filipino traditional street games after the demonstration. I realize that
language barrier is never an issue with kindred spirits. Since then I became attached with
South Korean culture. Similarly today, in broadening the relationship of the two countries,
we must let each other immerse and explore the beauty of each others culture personally.
So that youth from both countries will form unbreakable ties as I did with my Korean
friends as a child.
United beyond boundaries
For more than 66 years of camaraderie, the two countries had been working handin-hand to improve together and had built generations of friendship. We share a bond that
is deeper than diplomatic ties. Koreans had supported Filipinos during disasters the same
way Filipinos did when they had faced tragedies. As one country cry and bleed, the other
weep in sympathy as if it is their own pain and suffering. Our hearts beat as one. Despite
the differences in culture, both countries had learned to complement with each other.
Youth have deeper involvement and understanding with each others tradition and values.
Stronger convictions
Although youths from both countries have deep involvement culturally and
sociologically with each other, still they need to step out of their comfort zones and make
actions to establish united community. Tangible resultsno matter how small or big from
common relevant issues that are addressed together is one of the many steps. Through
broader scope of media and communication, we can build a community that will work as
one to attend on issues that affects either or both countries. Volunteerism, more than just
knowing and understanding the culture, is the key to foster further relations
