Radiological Physics and Advisory Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai has been
conducting the One Year Post-M.Sc. Diploma Course in Radiological Physics since 1962. 49th One Year
Post-M.Sc. Diploma Course in Radiological Physics (affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute) is
scheduled to commence from first week of September 2010. In addition to twenty five (25) general
candidates, five (05) candidates sponsored by the hospitals having radiotherapy facilities will also be
selected. The sponsored candidates should have at least one year of previous radiological work
experience in a hospital or industry (with documentary evidence of having availed personnel monitoring
service).
1. COURSE CONTENT
The course content covers radiation physics, radiation chemistry, radiation biology, electronics
and instrumentation, statistics, computational methods, applications of radioisotopes in medicine,
industry research & agriculture and radiation hazards evaluation and control. Candidates will also be
trained in the safe use of radiation & radioisotopes in medicine, industry, agriculture and research. The
training is supplemented by practical experiments, demonstrations, visit to hospitals, industries and other
Divisions of BARC, Mumbai and six weeks field training in reputed radiotherapy hospital outside Mumbai.
The medium of instruction is English. The course is primarily to qualify the successful candidates as
Medical Physicists to work in cancer hospitals. The course is affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute.
2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Masters degree in Physics with minimum 60% marks in both B.Sc. and M.Sc., preferably
with an aptitude to work in cancer hospitals. Those, whose final results for M.Sc. qualifying degree are
awaited, but are otherwise eligible, can also apply. If selected, the mark sheet of final result should be
submitted by November 30, 2010.
3. AGE LIMIT
Age limit (As on September 01, 2010) (a) General Category – 26 years (b) OBC - 29 years (c)
SC/ST – 31 years (d) Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Dep 1984) – 31 years (e)
Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State from 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989
(DomKashmir) - 31 years.
Physically Challenged persons are eligible for age relaxation of maximum upto 10 years. The
candidates with physical disabilities limited to the lower extremities, but permitting to stand and move and
physically able to carry out the course requirement only will be considered. In the sponsored category,
candidates born on or after September 01, 1970 are also eligible to apply.
(i) Short-listing of candidates based on Marks obtained in their M.Sc. degree for
appearing in a Written Test screening followed by a Selection Interview both to be
conducted at Mumbai.
(ii) Candidates found suitable from among those who appear in the Selection Interview
for Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Post-Graduates
(OCES) – 2010 programme of BARC Training School in Physics discipline will also be
considered for admission to Dip. R.P. programme of 2010.
Selected candidates will be admitted to the programme subject to their being found
medically fit after a medical examination at BARC hospital in Mumbai.
5. TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE
Candidates called for written test/interview are eligible for a Single Sleeper Class Railway fare
from his/her place of normal residence to Mumbai and back by the shortest route on production of a
railway ticket/ticket number. However, sponsored candidates will not be paid any travelling
allowance for attending the interview.
6. STIPEND
A stipend of Rs.9300/- per month will be given to each trainee. (Excluding the trainees admitted
under Sponsored Category). During the entire period of stay, the trainees will have to bear their
expenses of boarding, lodging, etc.at Mumbai and during six weeks field training in reputed radiotherapy
hospital outside Mumbai.
7. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
First few rank-holders are likely to be absorbed in BARC/DAE as Scientific Officers in the grade
of Scientific Officer (C). The successful candidates qualify for employment as Medical Physicist in cancer
hospitals, working alongside clinicians in providing scientific and technical expertise and conducting
research. They are also qualified to serve as Radiological Safety Officers in research and industrial
institutions handling radioisotopes and ionizing radiations.
8. BOND
Each selected candidate has to execute a bond in the prescribed form. In the event of their
leaving the course before the completion of the stipulated period, they have to refund the entire amount
of stipend received by them together with interest thereon.
9. UNIVERSITY FEES
Selected candidates have to pay in all a sum of about Rs.3000/- in the form of Demand Draft
drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, HBNI, payable at Mumbai, at the time of admission.
HOW TO APPLY
a) Single copy of application, preferably typewritten on thick A4 paper (size: 21 cm X 30cm) should
be submitted as per proforma given below.
b) PHOTOGRAPH: Two recent photographs (passport size). One duly signed, should be pasted at
the marked place in the application and other with name of the applicant written in block letters
on the reverse, should be enclosed.
c) ENVELOPE: A self addressed (bilingual – Hindi & English) unstamped envelope (size: 23cm
X 10cm) should be attached to the application.
d) COPIES OF CERTIFICATES : Attested copies of all certificates for (a) Educational and technical
qualifications, (b) Date of birth and (c) Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates) (d) PH
certificate (if applicable) must be attached.
e) The envelope containing the application should be superscribed "Application for Dip.R.P.- (2010-
11)".
f) Applications complete in all respect should be sent to the Dy. ESTABLISHMENT OFFICER
(R-II), BHABHA ATOMIC RESEARCH CENTRE, TROMBAY, MUMBAI - 400 085, so as to
reach not later than May 20, 2010.
