Building Cars, Building Families, Building Faith

Recently, in cleaning out a closet in our home,
I found a couple of items that came from time
spent with my children in parent/child
activities. These happened to be vests worn in
Indian Guides and in Indian Princesses. There
were patches from events we attended
together: bowling parties, cake bakes and
camp outs. I remember these events fondly, as
do both children. I also remember the
Pinewood Derby we did in Indian Guides with
both children and in RA's with Jeff. I
remember taking our racer to the RA Congress
in Birmingham. These are memories we now
cherish. Are you making positive memories

Every year the Association hosts our Pinewood Derby for BOTH
boys and girls, and we even have a race for the adults who make
their own car along with their children. There are races for Lads
(boys in RA's grades 1-3), Crusaders (RA boys in grades 4-6), two
girls open races for grades 1-3 and 4-6, a boys open race for
grades 1-6, and an adult open race. The event will be held at
Thorington Road on Sunday, February 21 at 1:30 pm. It's not too
late to start building your cars, but you need to hurry. Pete
Cutcliffe will hold a preparation workshop/final tune-up on
Saturday the 20th at 5:00pm at Thorington Road. He has a few
cars left. If you don't have one, bring your boy or girl and make it
happen. Pages will be awarded for the fastest cars in each race and
for the best looking cars in each category.
Parents are charged under God to raise up their children in the fear
and admonition of the Lord. The church is to be an encourager
and helper in this process, but the primary responsibility remains
with the parents. We are hopeful that events like this can help
parents interact in a meaningful way with their child in a fun
activity. Why not take advantage of this opportunity? As the old
TV commercial said, "Try it. You'll like it."
