T & P notice in force, NAVAREA Msg, Cross track
limit, Light in line, Landmark, light. Alternative route,
Waiting areas, safe anchorage, contingency plans,
current information, VTS. Marine environmental
protection measures that apply, and avoid, as far as
possible, action and activities which could cause
damage to environment.
Contact Gibraltar VTS on channel 12 once bunkering operation
is completed
All pre-departure tests and checks carried out as per CL 1
group I, tested bridge and mooring equipment,
Master on the bridge conning, entry to be made in Bell book.
Echo sounder on, tested depth alarm. Compare chart depth
information with echo sounder data.
S.B.E. Maneuvering detail to be recorded in the BELL

BOOK.
Obtain permission from Gibraltar VTS before heaving up
anchor/once ship is underway, Monitor position and depth
continuously.
Bridge watch condition II-modified sea watch
Check position at least with two visual bearings, radar distance
and bearings and check with GPS data. Use Parallel indexing
as marked on chart to check for any cross track tendency. No
Go areas as marked on chart.
Tide information marked on chart, See tidal stream table on the
chart/ASD pages attached for calculation of direction and
strength of current. Time and Height for Gibraltar marked on
chart. Also see note Tidal streams for more information.
Monitor channel 16/12 for Gibraltar VTS
As a contingency for the entire port passage, in case of:
Steering gear failure use crash stop and drop both the
anchor. Than require assistance of tugs and move the vessel
in a safe position clear from traffic.
Main engine failure, try to steer to a safe place and drop
the anchor waiting for assistance in area marked as
contingency anchor on chart.
In both cases Gibraltar VTS to be advised
Monitor other ships in Anchorage areas. Keep well clear of
excludion zone around Europa point. Fill CL Group 1 Nr.5 for
Navigation in Coastal Waters/Traffic Separation Schemes.
Report to Tarifa Traffic on VHF channel 10 once vessel is out
of Gibraltar bay. Monitor channel 10/69 for Information
Boradcasts.
High speed crafts operate in the strait of Gibraltar. Keep sharp
lookout and take early action to avoid any close quarter
situations.T&P 580(P)/12 changes in depth to be refered in
chart.

Separation zone, When passing the precautionary area, Keep
sharp lookout for converging traffic and take early action to
avoid any close quarters situation, Keep sharp lookout for any
high speed crafts. No go areas as marked on chart.
TIDAL STREAMS AND CURRENTS
The approximate time of the turn of the tidal stream may be
obtained by applying the intervals given on the packed lines to
the time of HW at Gibraltar. The tidal stream may attain a
velocity of 3 knots inshore of the inner pecked lines, the
velocity decreasing offshore to less than 1,5 knots at the outer
pecked lines. In the centre of the Strait runs an eastward ocean
current uninfluenced by the tidal stream.

Waters /Traffic Separation Schemes. Also see note for Local

TIDAL STREAMS AND CURRENTS


The approximate time of the turn of the tidal stream may be
obtained by applying the intervals given on the packed lines to
the time of HW at Gibraltar. The tidal stream may attain a
velocity of 3 knots inshore of the inner pecked lines, the
velocity decreasing offshore to less than 1,5 knots at the outer
pecked lines. In the centre of the Strait runs an eastward ocean
current uninfluenced by the tidal stream.
