Assessment:
Assessment in MYP is criterion related and is based on a combination of formative and summative
assessment tasks. Each subject has specific criterion and are assessed using rubrics.
The four criteria are as follows:
A. ANALYSING Deconstructing texts in order to identify their essential elements and meaning
B. ORGANIZ ING Organizing ideas using appropriate conventions for different
forms/purposes.
C. PRODUCING TEXT. Using the creative process to produce written/spoken texts to explore
new perspectives
D. USING LANGUAGE Using accurate, appropriate and varied language for selfexpression.
Formative Assessment: Tasks and assignments that allow the teacher to regularly judge the
effectiveness of both teaching and learning processes. This may include teacher observation and
oral, written or products of student effort. Examples: class activities, extended writing exercises and
reflections.
Summative Assessment: The judgment made by the teacher of the standard of achievement
reached by the student at the end of a unit of work. Examples: Creative Writing, Response to
Literature, Oral Commentaries and Essays.
