THE PROPAGATION OF ISLAM FOR BENEFIT OF MANKIND

In 570 A.D., a most unique personality was born in the city of

Arabian Peninsula; called Mecca. He was called Mohammed (PBUH). In
610 A.D. Allah (the Creator, sustainer and Master of the Universe)
asked Muhammad (peace be upon him) to declare to the world that he
was made final messenger (prophet) by Allah. Allah, the all powerful
Master of the Universe, ordered Prophet to convey to all human beings
the message of Islam as revealed in the Quran (the words of Allah for
guidance of all human being). Allah’s apostle did the same. The
prophet was perfect model of Islam and he showed to all human-
beings the path of righteousness. The message of Islam in the
words of prophet is as under:

One day while the Prophet was sitting in the company of some
people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, "What is faith?" Allah's
Apostle replied, 'Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting
with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he
further asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Apostle replied, "To worship
Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the
compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of
Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan (perfection)?"
Allah's Apostle replied, "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you
cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is
looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be
established?" Allah's Apostle replied, "The answerer has no better
knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its
portents.

Allah's Apostle said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):

• To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and
Muhammad is Allah's Apostle.
• To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and
perfectly.
• To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity) .
• To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca)
• To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.

A man asked the Prophet , "What sort of deeds or (what qualities of)
Islam are good?" The Prophet replied, 'To feed (the poor) and greet
those whom you know and those whom you do not Know (See Hadith
No. 27).
The Prophet said, "Whoever possesses the following three qualities will
have the sweetness (delight) of faith:

• The one to whom Allah and His Apostle becomes dearer than
anything else.
• Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake.
• Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be
thrown into the fire."

Allah's Apostle said while a group of his companions were around him,
"Swear allegiance to me for:

• Not to join anything in worship along with Allah.

• Not to steal.
• Not to commit illegal sexual intercourse.
• Not to kill your children.
• Not to accuse an innocent person (to spread such an accusation
among people).
• Not to be disobedient (when ordered) to do good deed."

The Prophet added: "Whoever among you fulfills his pledge will be
rewarded by Allah. And whoever indulges in any one of them (except
the ascription of partners to Allah) and gets the punishment in this
world, that punishment will be an expiation for that sin. And if one
indulges in any of them, and Allah conceals his sin, it is up to Him to
forgive or punish him (in the Hereafter)." 'Ubada bin As-Samit added:
"So we swore allegiance for these." (points to Allah's Apostle)

Allah's Apostle was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To
believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then
asked, "What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, "To participate in
Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause." The questioner again asked,
"What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To perform Hajj (Pilgrim
age to Mecca) 'Mubrur, (which is accepted by Allah and is performed
with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure only and not to show off
and without committing a sin and in accordance with the traditions of
the Prophet)."

The Prophet said: "I was shown the Hell-fire and that the majority of
its dwellers were women who were ungrateful." It was asked, "Do they
disbelieve in Allah?" (or are they ungrateful to Allah?) He replied,
"They are ungrateful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the
favors and the good (charitable deeds) done to them. If you have
always been good (benevolent) to one of them and then she sees
something in you (not of her liking), she will say, 'I have never
received any good from you."

The Prophet said, "The signs of a hypocrite are three:

• Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.

• Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise ).
• If you trust him, he proves to be dishonest. (If you keep
something as a trust with him, he will not return it.)"

Very few have been mentioned above; the sayings of prophet are
voluminous.

Let us see what the following verses of Quran (the words of

Almighty) say:

“In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

This is the Book (Quran); in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to

those who fear Allah;

Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of
what we have provided for them;

And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy
time and (in their hearts) has the assurance of the Hereafter.

They are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will
prosper

As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn
them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their
eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur).

Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the
Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.

In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And
grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to
themselves).
When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say:
"Why, we only Want to make peace!"
They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile
none save themselves; but they perceive not.

Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it)
not.
When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when
they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you:
We (were) only jesting."

When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say:

"Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the
fools, but they do not know.

Allah (Himself) doth mock them, leaving them to wander blindly on in

their contumacy.

These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic
is profitless, and they have lost true direction,

Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all
around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter
darkness. So they could not see.

Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).”

In 632 A.D., The Prophet, after completion of his mission, departed

from this world leaving two things among human beings the Quran
(which is word of the Master of the universe )and Prophet’s
sunnah(approved way of life by prophet Muhammad) for guidance of
mankind. His mission was indeed very difficult but he successfully
accomplished it. Through the massage of Islam he united first the
Arab tribes and then rest of the nations who had been torn by
revenge, rivalry, and internal fights. The prophet prepared a strong
nation that propagated the message of Islam and conquered the
hearts and minds of different nations of the world simultaneously. The
message of Islam spread far and wide and extended from the Atlantic
Ocean on the West, to the borders of China on the East. In 711 A.D.,
only 80 years after the death of the prophet, the Arabs crossed to
Europe to propagate the message of Islam to provide security to the
people in this world and the world to come. The Muslim remained in
Spain till the Almighty wished and when the hearts of the indigenous
people were sealed to take goodness they went against the message
of Islam .In 732 A.D., the Muslim continued propagation of the
message to Paris but the message was stopped at Tours and Poiter In
831 A.D., the Moslems of North Africa arrived in Sicily and ruled it for
200 years. By 846 A.D. Muslim controlled the southern part of Italy
and encountered. The hold of the Moslems over Italy remained so firm
that Pope John VIII (872-882 A.D.) deemed it prudent to pay tribute
for two years. In 869 A.D., the Arabs captured Malta (Ibn-Khaldun). In
the tenth century, from Italy and Spain, the Arabs extended the
message of Islam through the Alpine passages into mid-Europe. In the
Alps, there are a number of castles and walls which tourists guides the
coming of the Moslems of Sicily. In the southern part of Italy and in
Sicily, a great civilization was established and through which the torch
of knowledge of Islam(which compasses moral and scientific) spread to
Europe, mainly through the University of Salerno in the southern part
of Italy .The expansion of the Moslems in Europe was not limited to
those from North Africa and Spain. The Moslems, under the Ottoman
Empire, dominated Europe from the East. They governed a good part
of Middle Europe and came to Vienna twice.
