Conclusion
It has been shown that diabetes is a procoagulant state.
This pathophysiology of this procoagulant state is partially
understood. Hypercoagulability as evidence by increased
fibrinogen levels, decreased protein S levels and increased
production of von Willebrand factor by endothelium and
hypofibrinolysis as evidenced by increased PAI-1 levels
contribute to procoagulant state observed in diabetes. This
procoagulant state not only contributes to major vessel diseases
