Modern combustion engines in today´s cars and com-
mercial vehicles are equipped with numerous complex
systems. They make engines reliable and support
engine capabilities, and they also ensure that engines
have a low fuel consumption and high environmental

components essential for exhaust gas recirculation

Environmental protection and mobility still appeared to be incompatible approximately thirty years ago. Today
– in the age of catalytic converters, particulate filters and the Euro 4 standard – we know that an increased
sense of responsibility for the environment has resulted in enormous technological leaps and important innova-
tions.

The Volkswagen Magazine wrote in February 2006, for instance, that petrol engine performance has been
doubled over a period of three decades, whilst the fuel consumption simultaneously dropped by a whole 15 %.

lopments. We continuously contribute to improving
engine economy with our ever more advanced
temperature management methods. The exhaust gas
recirculation technology, in which Wahler's develop-
ment role is crucial, is also a milestone on the route
towards ongoing improved environmental compatibili-
ty of car and commercial vehicle engines.

Environmental protection is also an important factor in

our company's daily work. In addition to environmen-
tal certification compliant with DIN EN ISO 14001,
Wahler has also been awarded environment certifica-
tion by Ökoprofit. Responsible treatment of energy as
well as materials and resources is therefore a matter
of course for us.

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is crucial for com-

pliance with the increasingly stricter directives for • Electric EGR valves
exhaust emissions levels. It can significantly reduce

nitrogen oxides and particulates. When doing so,
cooled subsets of exhaust emissions are deliberately • Electric EGR flap valves
mixed with the intake air. We develop the system
matched to each engine for this recirculation circuit,
and we manufacture the associated EGR valves and

The manufacture of flexible metallic pipes is one of

Wahler's core competencies. Unsusceptible to tem-
perature, wear-resistant and shapeable to nearly any
form: our pipes cover all requirements for use in the

Innovations for the Future. That is our Tradition.

As early as 1925 Wahler had recognised the im-

portance of the automobile, and it was one of the
first manufacturers to start producing metal bellows,
referred to as seamless corrugated pipes. 1928
followed with manufacture of the first thermostats in
response to the progressive entry of new technologies
in automobile construction. Pioneering inventions and
improvements therefore laid the foundation stone for
the company's successful evolution.
1925
This innovative spirit still prevails in the company
today, and it is documented in the most recent deve-
lopments in exhaust gas return that significantly con-
tribute to the reduction of pollutant emissions. Wahler
invests over 5 % of its total turnover in research and
development every year so that it can continue to be
just ahead in the future for your well-being, and also
to preserve the inheritance of our founding father.
