Quick sample. Informative article on Green Architecture.

Green building, Environmental friendly architecture, Green architecture or Bio-architecture. It may have many
names but the point is that we are talking about that kind of Architecture that project and build
buildings capable to have a low effect on their final environment and, in general on the global
environment. More than as a specific subject the Green Architecture is a cultural approach to the
Architectures macro-subject. An approach that seems to be particularly suitable to modern problems
and to nowadays hot topics, an approach originally related to the Baubiologie (Bio building techniques)
a kind of studies born into the cultural environment of the seventies in Germany.
From ancient ages, the humanity, has spent a lot of effort trying to improve possible comforts offered by
various different kinds of building. Main aspects that interested builders and architects of all times were the
possibility to gain a more comfortable place developing at the same time better hygiene standards. In order
to achieve this results humanity started to use what was easy to find in nature: sites suitable to build new
places, the warm offered by the sun, the possibilities related to the presence of water and so on.
With times, architectural projects started to get some kind of distance from this first nature-oriented tendency
and started to become day by day closer to an artisanal (first) and technological (later) point of view. With the
increase of technological knowledge and abilities, humans started to use and develop in more creative and
complex ways the possibilities offered by the nature. After a long and chaotic period of experimentations and
chemical/artificial approaches, anyway, during the XX century humans started to feel again the need to go
back to something which could be Environmentally friendly and somehow more natural.
If in a first period this rediscovered point of view was full of limits due to a lack of knowledge and available
fonts of energy, things ended up changing very quickly thanks to the develop and diffusion of a few but
essential points:

The diffusion of Ecologist groups

Increasing worries for problems related to pollution

Problems related to the lack of possible new fossil source of energy

Aspects that gained more visibility due to this process were those related to sanitary issues and to the
possibility to find a source of energy that could be cheaper and still usable by everyone. The main effect of
this new kind of interest was for sure the rediscover of an architectural project based on natural elements
and on elements that could be easily renewable.
These, are basically the reasons why the Green Architecture, nowadays tend to be as global as possible
showing particular attention to the relationship human-nature and considering every single building not just
as a building but also as a way to support the life on the planet.
Green Architecture can be considered as a macro-subject to identify all those tendencies applicable in order
to have an ecologically correct way to build new sites without harming any ecosystem or environment. From
a technical and ideological point of view tends to match a wise use of available resources, the needs of
humanity and the natural presences of a certain territory with an interdisciplinary approach. This macrosubject involves various kind of goals such as: find a solution to certain kinds of illness that seems to affect
humans and their environment, mix traditional architectural trends with the new needs and develop a correct
way to use materials and components available in order to answer to certain bio-ecological standards.
Build something accordingly to what previously stated and mentioned can be possible following some
suggestions expressed by architects who studied this specific kind of problems:
1. Relationship between the building and its environment. Is impossible nowadays to build something
without a deep and wise knowledge and understanding of its contest.
2. Pre-existences. You cant simply ignore the complicated ecosystem of a place. If You decided to
build with solar-panels You need to choose the right place in order to avoid lack of Sun or similar
technical problems.
3. Materials. The priority should be given to natural materials as well as recyclable or recycled ones.

4. Energy saving systems. For example adding systems to produce or collect Hydro-energy, Wind
energy, Solar energy and so on.
