Rationale for the inclusion of the course in the programme


This course provides students to obtain knowledge in the areas of computer
networks.
Course Objectives:
Introduce the fundamental networking concepts and technologies to
the students.
Expose students to the various software and hardware components
used in a Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN)
environment.
Provide students the skills in constructing straight-through and crossover cable, setup and troubleshooting the basic LAN network

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:


CLO1: Explain the role of seven layers of OSI model. (C2, A2)
CLO2: Examine the TCP/IP protocols and the function of well-known
TCP/IP applications, such as the World Wide Web and email, and their
related services such as HTTP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP/POP, Telnet, TCP,
UDP, ICMP, IP and ARP. (C4, CTPS, LL)
CLO3: Calculate a suitable network addressing scheme and setup a
network based on a given business scenario. (C3, P3)
