AUTOMATIC DOG FEEDER WITH MANUAL WATER DISPENSING SYSTEM:

TESTING AND EVALUATION
A PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR ADVANCED LOGIC DESIGN
PREPARED BY:
NOEL BERDIN
JEHU BASA
RESTITUTO DICTADO

DECEMBER 2015

A. Background of the existing system:

All automatic dog feeding systems on the market today use

gravity hoppers or simple timer/motor combinations. For example the
Petsafe 2 Meal Automatic Dog Feeder that has two separate trays with
separate timers that pop open at feeding time. The Petmate Le Bistro
Automatic Dog Feeder is similar to the Perfect Petfeeder in its features.
To the best of our knowledge no systems utilizing logic or any
electronics beyond timers are currently available for purchase.

B. Problem Statement
Any pet need to be taken care and the owner need to be there to
take care of them. Some dog cannot control their diet and will eat as
long as there is food for them. Moreover, the dog supervision upon
feeding and requires regular care in order to remain healthy especially
when the owner stays for a long vacation.
There are many different designs and brands on automatic dog
feeders on the market, but some limitations on the existing dog
feeders need to be improved.
A dog feeder with water system would add a convenience to the pet to
make some drink of clean water.
Though some feeders are designed specifically to keep food dry,
many designs allow moisture to seep into the food hopper. This can
cause clumping, and can result the failure of the mechanism. Failure to
release an accurate amount of food to the dog will result to wastage or
if it has a bigger diet, there is tendency that the food will not be
enough.

C. Objectives of the design

The primary objective of this project is to create an Automatic Dog
Feeder with manual Water Dispensing System that aims to:
1. To ease the manual feeding of the dog owner.
2. To have convenient dog feeding habit.
3. To monitor the diet of the dog.
D. Significance of the design
The design will aid in providing information in the development
of an automatic dog feeder with manual water dispensing system. It
helps to the student to apply their background knowledge on logic
circuit applications upon using basic gates, sensors and any other
electronic components that would fits to the design. Moreover, it
enhanced their skills in bread boarding and pcb etching in project
implementations. It helps them also to understand the basic
applications of sensor related products today.
Furthermore, creating the device will help in promoting the
schools

technological advancement through the innovation of

different kinds of devices. Creating the device also identify the

advantages and disadvantages on how the dog behaves and react
given an accurate food that would affects their growth.

This will

also help other proponents to see if there is still ways to develop the
device depending on how it will affect to the dogs environment.

E: Scope and Limitations

The scope covers the lists of capabilities that an automatic dog
feeder

manual

water

dispensing

system

can

perform

while

limitations are the operations that the device is restricted to

execute because it is outside the boundaries of the project. This
part of the design opens an inventors mind for further research
study.
The scopes of the design includes the following:
1. The automation of the dog feeder with manual water
dispensing system is mainly controlled by the use of logic
gates.
2. One container is controlled. One container can be set to
release a feeds at a time and the other container will release
water if the dog licks it.
3. The is turbine is connected to the servo motor if it reaches the
set time it will automatically turn on and release a food.
The limitations of the design includes the following:
1. The prototype is limited to the feeds you want to feed. Dry
feeding is recommended and fresh foods should be avoided.
2. The design was capable of releasing feeds. Thus, it does not
matter even if there are still foods on the container it will still
release feeds on the given time. It will depend on the user to
set time in order not overfeed the dog or turn the feeds into a
waste.
3. The device could not operate during brown out.
