for you, we have sorted all our activities into four categories: easy, Trysil extreme
active, extreme and wellness. The activity’s colour code will deter- Trysil wellness

Sometimes it’s important to get away from it
all. In Trysil, both the landscape and our offers
invite you to take it easy. Float gently down
the Trysil River on one of our rafts, while your
float lies on the water and the sausages are on
the barbecue. Breathe in the clear mountain

quietly amongst the trees and discover the

exciting is up to you. In Trysil, you decide.
Wellness is a part of our nature. For some,
wellness is looking quietly out over the water
with a fishing rod in hand, surrounded by mag-

of each mountain in the Top 5

On Trysil Mountain, posts will be

At the beautiful Kolosjøen

At Trysil there are a number of
excellent places for swimming:
Gjetsjøen, which is 3 km west
of Østby; Flersjøen swimming
centre at Støa (marked by
signs along RV/Classified Road
25); Ulvsjøen at Vestby; and
Sjøenden, at the south end of
Osensjøen. These are all nice
for swimmers of all ages and
probably the finest inland sand
beach – gently slopes into the
northern end of Osensjøen lake
in Åmot. It’s a kilometre long and
very child-friendly. Ask at the
Trysil Tourist Office about other
swimming areas.

Trysil has an extensive
network of forest roads
and trails which cater for
cyclists of all ages.
Marked cycling routes
Trysil has nine marked cycling
routes varying from 4 to 75 km in
length. The routes are graded into
four levels of ability. There are
lovely rest areas on all marked
routes. You can get tips and free
route descriptions for all marked
routes at the Trysil Tourist Office.
Remember to bring your helmet
and to be considerate towards
both the environment and your
fellow travellers.
The Bamserunden Route

Støa Channel
Experience a log driving facility
from the 1850s at Støa Chan-
nel, in use until 1901. Using
canals, loggers floated logs
from Ljøra up to Flersjøen, 13
meters higher, then on to the
Trysil River. They needed two
log ramps, each consisting of
two railed cart tracks. From the
top of the ramps, the logs were
moved by manpower. Parts
of this distinctive log driving
operation have been restored.
Støa Canal can be visited free
of charge, however the guided
tour must be booked in advance.
Støa Channel is located along
Highway 25 in Støa, 37 km east

Trysil Bygdetun
(Rural Museum) Floating Museum Osensjøen lake
Trysil Bygdetun was founded in
1901 and is acknowledged as
Norway’s oldest rural museum.
The Museum comprises farm-
houses, outbuildings and field
buildings, in all 21 buildings
which show how people in Trysil
lived in the 17th, 18th and 19th
centuries. On the hillside behind
the farmyard, the museum
displays a complete mountain
dairy farm. The Rural Museum
is situated above and to the
east of the town centre, with a
lovely view towards Trysilfjellet
Mountain.

Nybergsund Route 2, approx. 80 km
Route 1, approx. 35 km
Drive first up the toll road (NOK
30) at Trysilfjellet, Norway’s
largest Alpine facility, that
each winter attracts thousands
of enthusiastic ski tourists.
From here you can see over
to Sweden and the mountains
along the Swedish border.
Returning from the mountain,
you can drive through the
extensive mountain lodge com-
munities. Take a detour up to
beautiful Knettsetra, where
you can enjoy a meal during the
summer season. The view is
magnificient on the way up to
this mountain farm.
Afterwards, take the trip to
Kongeparken in Nybergsund.
This is the site where the Royal
Family sought refuge from the
invading German army on 11
April 1940 – monument and
statue of King Haakon and King
Olav.
Within walking distance of the
centre of Trysil, there are seve-
ral monuments and statues in
honour of famous local poets
and skiers. Other popular tou-

simple wooden church dating
from 1861, and Trysil Bygdetun,

own Tourist Information, shops,
post office, gas station, canoe
rental, hiking trails etc. Fulu-
fjellet Alpine Centre is located
southeast of Ljørdalen. Within
short distance you will find
Fulufjellet National Park. On
this round-trip you can also visit
bathing sites and the cultural-
historical canal Støa Chanel.

Route 4, approx. 100 km
Osensjøen lake is located in a
beautiful setting in the western
part of Trysil. In the north you can
visit Osen church, dating back
to 1777. We also recommend
visiting Sørlistøa Timber Floating
Museum and Østre Æra where
battle positions from World War II
have been reconstructed. There
is a camping area with swimming
facility and a wonderful sandy
beach at Osensjøen’s northern-
most cove. Along the way you
also pass through magnificient
natural scenery, with many out-
standing sites to stop and have a
picnic along the way.
Elverum Centre at Elgå. During summer
Route 5, approx 150 km round-
trip
Elverum is a little city close to
Trysil, a modern dontown area
with shopping malls, college
and museums. The Norwegian
Forestry Museum and Glomdals
Museum both offer fascinating
exhibits and unique insights, and
both museums are known for
their professional museum work.
On the trip to or from Elverum, a
detour to visit the farm Snippen
Gård is highly recommended. The
farm features all types of farm
animals, activities for young and

Hamar Zorn Museum, Mora Church and
Route 5–6, approx. 220 km
round-trip
The medieval city of Hamar is
located in beautiful surround-
ings along the eastern shores of
lake Mjøsa. A modern city with
all modern amenities. There is
a wide range of attractive and
popular sites in the city: Dom-
kirkeodden, Hedmark Museum,
herb garden, Railway Museum
and the Viking Ship (official
skating arena during the 1994
Olympic Winter Games). You pass
Elverum on the way, see Route 5.
Lillehammer pal boundary between Trysil and
Route 5–6–7, approx. 330 km
round-trip
Lillehammer, the Olympic City,
has a wide range of popular
attractions to choose from. All
the Olympic facilities, including
the characteristic Ski Jumping
Tower at Kanthaugen, are all well
worth a visit. Other popular tou-
rist destinations are The Sandvig
Collections at Maihaugen, the
Lillehammer Art Museum and
the city’s famous pedestrian
street, Gågata. Just north of Lil-
lehammer (15 km), you also have
the popular amusement park
Hunderfossen, as well as the
Olympic facilities in Hafjell. You
pass Elverum and Hamar on the
way, see Routes 5 and 6.
Mora, Sweden
Route 8, approx. 320 km
round-trip
On the way to Mora you pass by
the large ski resort Sälen. The
trip takes you along the same
route as Vasaloppet (famous ski
race) down to Siljan lake. The
