NanoTronix Signs Contract for Maritime VSAT Platform of Korea Coast Guard
July 1, 2010 - NanoTronix signed a maintenance contract with the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) for the total MVSAT
platform of TDMA network, CDMA network, VPN, Hub RF, maritime antenna and video commanding system. With
this contract, KCG is now able to focus more strongly on legal enforcement by technical & maintenance support
for the whole network from NanoTronix.
iDirect Hubs Purchased by Bently Walker
July 6, 2010 - iDirect, Inc. announced that Bentley Walker, a major satellite operator in the UK, has purchased two
iDirect 5IF Hubs to expand services via Eutelsat SkyLogics teleports in Turin and Cagliari, Italy. The iDirect hubs
enable Bentley Walker to utilize increased bandwidth capacity on Eutelsats Premier W Series Satellites W2, W6
and W7, to provide extensive coverage over the EMEA region. iDirects latest software release, iDX 2.1 will
upgrade Bentley Walkers network infrastructure to expand its satellite coverage and offer new services to its
growing customer base.
Gilat Chosen to Provide Broadband Satellite Networks for Homeland Security in Asia
July 13, 2010 - Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. has been chosen to provide broadband satellite networks for
homeland security applications in Asia. The networks are being used to deliver data, video and voice applications
for homeland security and border patrol forces in addition to other defense requirements. The networks
incorporate a video surveillance application and various quick-deploy transportable units. These include Gilat's
customized man-pack solution which is a portable communications system that enables the forces to rapidly
establish broadband connectivity in the field. Gilat's SkyEdge and SkyEdge II multi-service platforms enable the
delivery of high-quality voice, broadband data and video services for different environments including enterprises,
rural networks, cellular backhaul and government network applications.
Intellian v110 Upgrades Eutelsat ESV Characterization to Standard M-Class

July 14, 2010 - Intellian Technologies has upgraded the ESV characterization of Eutelsat with Standard-M class
on its v110 maritime satellite VSAT antenna system. Standard-M class is granted to antennas that fully meet
Eutelsat Earth Station Standard M. The Intellian v110 is a 105 cm Ku-band three-axis stabilized VSAT antenna
system capable of receiving SCPC, MCPC, TDMA or Spread Spectrum transmissions. Designed for ocean
vessels in the recreational, commercial or oil and gas market segments and military vessels, the Intellian v-Series
includes two additional models, the 60 centimeter (23.6 inch) v60 and the 125 centimeter (48.8 inch) v130.
Globecomm Awarded Ka-Band Infrastructure Contract Valued at $8.7 Million
July 15, 2010 - Globecomm Systems Inc. has been awarded an infrastructure contract from a foreign government
valued at $8.7 million. Under the terms of the contract, Globecomm will design and install multiple Ka-band
antennas and related subsystems. The contract scope includes a turnkey RF electronics install for fixed and
vehicle mounted Ka-band terminal systems, monitoring and control software which will control all subsystems and
allow remote monitoring and control from distant operational centers and life cycle support. The contract will be
completed in December 31, 2011.
Iridium Extends Long-Term Relationship with Boeing
July 21, 2010 - Iridium Communications Inc. has entered into two comprehensive, long-term agreements with The
Boeing Company that redefine the relationship between the companies for maintenance, operations and support
of Iridiums satellite network. The first agreement, relating to the operation and maintenance of Iridiums current
satellite constellation, transforms an agreement that Iridium and Boeing have had in place for the last ten years.
The second agreement is a new support services contract under which Boeing will become the exclusive
operations and maintenance provider for Iridiums next-generation constellation, Iridium NEXT. With the entry into
this second agreement, Iridium will benefit from having a single operator during the transition from the current
constellation to Iridium NEXT.
Mitsubishi Electric to Launch GaN HEMTs for L to C Band Amplifiers
July 22, 2010 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed three models of gallium nitride (GaN) high electron
mobility transistors (HEMTs) with 10W, 20W and 40W outputs. The three models are for L to C band (0.5~6 GHz)
amplifiers, which are incorporated into base stations for mobile phones, VSAT and other transmission equipment.
Sample shipments will begin from August 2010. In March 2010, Mitsubishi Electric became the first company in
the world to manufacture GaN HEMTs, launching four models for C-band space applications. HEMTs that use
GaN have higher power density, which helps save energy and contributes to making transmitters more compact
and lightweight, and expanded operating life.
Thuraya Handheld Phones to be Sold at Bahrain Duty Free
July 22, 2010 - Thurayas mobile satellite phones are now available in Bahrain Duty Free. Thuraya is aiming to
serve travelers who are heading towards Gulf States via Bahrain for business, tourism or leisure as it is a vital hub
for several Gulf residents. On top of Thurayas handhelds portfolio is XT, the worlds toughest and lightest satellite
handheld phone. The XT is a uniquely smart handheld with the fastest data service and has GPS waypoint
navigation. In addition, Thurayas SO-2510 (satellite only) and SG-2520 (a dual satellite/GSM phone) also will be
available at Bahrain Duty Free.
Integral Systems Announces an Order from DigitalGlobe
July 27, 2010 - Integral Systems, Inc. announced its wholly-owned subsidiary, RT Logic, has received an order
from DigitalGlobe to supply remote high rate data capture systems and TT&C modems to optimize distribution of
DigitalGlobe's satellite imagery. The delivery builds upon an initial deployment of RT Logic equipment to
DigitalGlobe that was initiated in 2005. DigitalGlobe originally worked with RT Logic to design and deploy a
complete ground system architecture that included high rate data capture systems and command and control
front-end processing. The architecture is now being expanded with new data capture and TT&C modems to
enhance image download capacities from DigitalGlobe's WorldView-1, WorldView-2, and QuickBird satellites. The
new systems will support an antenna being installed at the Troll, Antarctica site. Other existing sites at Fairbanks
and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and Norway will also receive the new RT Logic equipment.
Hughes Unveils Groundbreaking Airborne Video Solution
July 26, 2010 - Hughes Network Systems has completed a successful demonstration of its advanced airborne
video solution to a key government agency, confirming full D-1 video resolution at air-to-ground user data rates of
over 2 Mbps. The Hughes Airborne Video Solution employs Hughes HX router and HX ExpertNMS, its network
management system with a highly intuitive and interactive interface to optimize performance and productivity.
Hughes is building on its commercial aviation broadband offering, thereby facilitating adoption of a COTS-based
solution by the airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) community.
KT and ABS Sign a Multi-Transponder Condosat Agreement

July 29, 2010 - KT Corporation (KT) and Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) have signed a multi-million dollar deal for
multiple C- and Ku-band transponders on ABS' satellites, including the new ABS-2 satellite scheduled to be
operational by 2013. This will mark the third successful transaction between the two organizations with the earlier
agreements for the sale and purchase of two Koreasat satellites. ABS-2 will be launched in the Asia Pacific region
with nearly 12 kW of payload power and up to a total of 74 active C-band, Ku-band and Ka-band transponders
across 8 different beams. ABS-2 is designed for a wide range of services including DTH, cable TV distribution,
VSAT services, data networks and telecommunications services. The satellite will provide expansion capacity to
existing ABS-1 customers, and will also act as in-orbit spare and provide backup for the ABS-1 transponders.
Cobhams Sea Tel Announces 2010 Flagship 10 Series Antenna
July 29, 2010 - Cobham SATCOM announced its new Sea Tel XX10 marine stabilized antenna, developed to
enable bandwidth conscious customers to enjoy the benefits of Always-On VSAT network in the maritime
environment. The XX10 series is a lighter weight, easy-to-install, marine stabilized antenna system for broadband
connectivity. Available in 100cm and 125cm reflector sizes, it is configured to be compatible with all Ku-Band
frequencies. The XX10 system is fully enabled to work with remote management devices to provide remote
access, control and management of the system. The antenna will also be equipped with the Sea Tel stabilization
system, isolating the antenna system from ships motion.
Thales Selected by Malaysia Airlines for SATCOM Connectivity
July 16, 2010 - Thales announced that Malaysia Airlines will install the Thales TopFlight SATCOM (TFS) on their
new order of Boeing B737s. The TopFlight SATCOM establishes a new level of performance. The new ARINC
781 standard of SATCOM continues to support Inmarsat aero-services for flight deck voice and data connectivity.
Thales TopFlight SATCOM is available as a line fit option on B737, B777 passenger and freighter aircraft and is
capable of supporting standalone cockpit or integrated cockpit and cabin solutions.
C-COM Receives $2.3 Million Order from Asia
July 27, 2010 - C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. received a single order valued at $2.3 million for its iNetVu mobile
antenna systems from one of its Asian resellers. The iNetVu vehicle mount antenna systems will be used for a
number of different applications. The order is expected to be completed prior to the end of November of this year,
with initial shipments starting in August.

BROADCASTING NEWS
Sky Perfect JSAT Chooses Volicon Observer
July 14, 2010 - Volicon announced that SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation has installed the Volicon Observer digital
logging and monitoring solution. By providing a continuous log of broadcast content across more than 100 SKY
Perfect channels, the Observer is ensuring that the network maintains compliance with Japanese broadcasting
regulations. SKY Perfect has installed several multichannel Observer systems to provide an archive of all
broadcast content that is stored for at least three months, in compliance with Japanese regulations. Operators can
access the system from an easy-to-use Web interface to search for, retrieve, and view specific video clips quickly
for media mentions.
SES WORLD SKIES Extends Reach with Hope Channel
July15, 2010 - SES WORLD SKIES signed a new long-term capacity agreement to deliver the Hope Channel to
audiences in new markets across the Pacific basin. The deal marks the latest milestone in a decade-long
distribution alliance between SES WORLD SKIES and Hope Channel Inc. As part of the agreement, the
international broadcast network will utilize 4.0 MHz of capacity on SES WORLD SKIES NSS-9 satellite to deliver
health, family, youth and inspirational programming to viewers in French Polynesia, New Caledonia and other
countries throughout the Pacific Ocean Region.
GlobeCast Australia to Deliver CCTV to Australian Audiencies
July 19, 2010 - GlobeCast Australia announced a carriage deal to deliver Chinas CCTV to Australian audiences,
via the Austar television platform. The channel premiered in Australia on July 22 on Austar Channel 653. CCTV is
produced in Beijing and already broadcasting to about 100 million people in 124 countries. In April 2010, SKY
NEWS, Australias news channel, announced a reciprocal programming agreement with CCTV and secured an
agreement for its programming to be broadcast into China, and English-language programming from CCTV to be
broadcast in Australia on a regular basis for the first time.

SS/Loral to Provide Communications Satellite to HISPASAT Group


July 6, 2010 - Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has been awarded a contract to manufacture a new spacecraft for
HISPASAT Group. HISPASAT will use the new satellite, Amazonas 3 to broadcast and distribute TV and radio
programming in the Americas and Europe as well as for deploying universal social services and corporate fixed
and mobile telephone networks in the regions. Amazonas 3 is a satellite to replace and expand on Amazonas 1 at
61 degrees West. The satellite will be capable of operating up to 33 simultaneous Ku-band transponders and 19
simultaneous C-band transponders over Europe and North and South America. Amazonas 3 is based on the
Space Systems/Loral 1300 satellite bus and is scheduled for launch in 2012.
Astrium and ESA to Develop Launch Vehicle of Future
July 7, 2010 - Astrium has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to undertake initial development
studies for a Next Generation Launcher (NGL) for future satellite launches. This 15 month project has a total
contractual value of 8.5 million, of which Astrium will contribute 1.5million of its own funds. The NGL project is
part of ESAs Future Launcher Preparatory Program (FLPP), which aims to prepare a proposal combining all the
technical and organizational aspects of the program for presentation at the next ESA ministerial conference. The
study will focus on modular concepts capable of covering the intermediate propulsion power range.
Pre-launch Processing Underway with Two Payloads for Ariane 5's Upcoming Launch
July 8, 2010 - Arianespace's third heavy-lift Ariane 5 ECA launch of 2010 for Nilesat-201 and RASCOM-QAF1R
has begun final checkout in preparation for their planned August 3 liftoff from the Spaceport in French Guiana.
These spacecraft have completed the fit-check milestones, which validate the compatibility with the adapters that
serve as their interface within the Ariane 5's dual-payload "stack." The two satellites were produced by Thales
Alenia Space, and the fit-check activity was performed with both spacecraft inside the S5B integration hall of the
Spaceport's large S5 payload preparation facility.
ILS Successfully Launches EchoStar XV
July 11, 2010 - International Launch Services (ILS) successfully carried the EchoStar XV satellite into orbit on an
ILS Proton for DISH Network LLC, a pay-TV provider in America. EchoStar XV was built by Space Systems/Loral
(SS/L) on the 1300 platform, weighing 5,521 kg at separation. EchoStar XV, located at 61.5 degrees West, will
provide expanded services, including HD programming, for DISH Networks more than 14 million DTH television
subscribers. EchoStar XV was the 15th SS/L satellite launched on an ILS Proton. This was the 358th launch for
Proton since its inaugural flight in 1965, and the 61st ILS Proton launch overall.
AsiaSat Signs Launch Agreement with Sea Launch
July 12, 2010 - Sea Launch Company has entered into an agreement with Asia Satellite Telecommunications
Company Limited (AsiaSat) for the launch of an AsiaSat satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit on the Sea
Launch system. AsiaSat will assign the mission at a later date for a launch to be executed between 2012 and
2014. It will be carried out on Sea Launchs Zenit-3SL launch system, from its equatorial launch site at 154
degrees West.
ISRO Announces the Successful Launch of CARTOSAT-2B
July 12, 2010 - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that the Polar Satellite Launch
Vehicle (PSLV-C15) successfully launched CARTOSAT-2B from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR,
Sriharikota. The launch of PSLV-C15 was the sixteenth consecutive successful flight of PSLV. PSLV - C15 in its
flight, in addition to CARTOSAT-2B, carried four auxiliary satellites namely STUDSAT a pico-satellite weighing
less than 1 kg, built jointly by students from a consortium of seven engineering colleges form Karnataka and
Andhra Pradesh, two nano-satellites NLS 6.1 and NLS 6.2 from University of Toronto, Canada and ALSAT-2A, a
micro-satellite from Algerian Space Agency.
Astrium and Cisco to Explore Space-Based Internet Protocol Routing
July 15, 2010 - Astrium Services and Cisco signed a Technology Partnership Agreement to study the applications
of space-based routers. Space-based routers have the potential to transfer vast amounts of data to multiple
ground based receivers in a single step, eliminating the need to pass through teleports and rapidly increasing the
speed of the download process. Astrium and Cisco will initially focus on studying the space based router that
Cisco is currently testing on the Intelsat 14 satellite and how to best apply Astriums communication service
expertise and sophisticated payload processing capabilities to better support its customers. Through this joint
technology study, Astrium Services will look to provide a more diverse range of telecommunication services in
remote areas that require rapid data transfers.
SS/L to Deliver the Joint Venture Satellite for Eutelsat and ictQATAR
July 15, 2010 - Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) was selected to build the high-performance satellite for Eutelsat
Communications and ictQATAR at the 25.5 degree East orbital location. To enter into service in early 2013, this

satellite will provide coverage across the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia to follow on from Eutelsat's
EUROBIRD 2 satellite, which is currently operated at 25.5 degrees East. In addition to securing Ku-band
continuity for Eutelsat and additional Ku-band resources for ictQATAR, it will initiate a Ka-band capability to open
business opportunities for both parties. The television market will in particular benefit from the installed base of
more than 13 million satellite homes already equipped for DTH reception from this neighborhood.
EchoStar Signs Agreement with Sea Launch
July 22, 2010 The Sea Launch Company has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of EchoStar Satellite
Services LCC providing EchoStar with the ability to launch up to three satellites on the Sea Launch system. Sea
Launch expects to launch the satellites using the Zenit-3SL launch vehicle Sea Launch has successfully launched
previous EchoStar satellites, including EchoStar IX in 2003.

REPORTS
WTA Publishes 2010 Edition of Sizing the Teleport Market Study
July 6, 2010 - The World Teleport Association (WTA) published the update to its Sizing the Teleport Market study.
According to the report, Europe took first place for total commercial revenues in 2010, with North America coming
in a close second. The strongest growth from 2004 to 2010, however, took place in Russia and the Newly
Independent States (NIS), the Middle East, Latin America and Africa, where emerging market economies are
leading the world in overall economic growth.
NSR Expects Satellite Backhaul Continues to Benefit
July 29, 2010 - NSRs annual review of the wireless backhaul via satellite market shows the industry made
tremendous gains from the blistering pace of wireless subscriber growth in 2009 and the first half of 2010. In total,
NSR projects that satellite backhaul equipment and services will grow from an estimated $316.6 million in
revenues in 2009 to $583.4 million by 2019, yielding total revenues of close to $4.8 billion over an 11-year period.
Wireless Backhaul via Satellite, 4th Edition is a multi-client report now available from NSR. The report provides
market forecasts for in-service units, service revenues, equipment revenues, demand by legacy systems and
HTS, and regional trends.

APPOINTMENTS
Eutelsat Appoints Andrew Wallace as Chief Commercial Officer
July 1, 2010 - Eutelsat Communications has appointed Andrew Wallace as Chief Commercial Officer. Wallace will
head up Eutelsat's overall sales and marketing activities. His role includes leadership of the Group's infrastructure
and Value-Added Services businesses. Prior to joining Eutelsat, Wallace's previous commercial appointments
include Marketing Director at Pace PLC, the world's largest digital TV set-top-box developer, and different
positions at Cable & Wireless, working on B2B and consumer telecommunications services.
Eutelsat Announces Appointment of David Bair as Chief Technical Officer
July 20, 2010 - Eutelsat Communications announced the appointment of David Bair as Chief Technical Officer.
Bair joins Eutelsat from EchoStar Satellite Services where he was Senior Vice President of Space Programs and
Operations. During his tenure, EchoStar instituted a new flight operations group to fly its own satellites, and the
EchoStar fleet grew from five to 14 spacecraft. Prior to EchoStar, Bair's track record in the satellite industry
includes executive posts at Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, where he was Vice President and
Chief Engineer of commercial space programs, overseeing the integration of Lockheed's traditional manufacturing
group with its new commercial telecommunications sector.
