1. What is the Drain Network Analysis and Design?

Drain Network Analysis and Design Version 3.0 is an application that performs iteration on Drain
network. It will calculate all invert levels, sump invert levels, Drain gradients, sizes and etc.
User has to input the network system with catchments areas, allow cascading, ground levels, length of
sections and coefficient of runoff. The application to will perform the remaining iteration computation.
2. What are the pre-requisite skills needed?

This manual is written for an audience that already is familiar with drain design such as;
i.
Basic knowledge of Drain design
ii.
Must know all the input parameters where program will not explain in detail.
3. What user can do with Drain Network Analysis and Design?

The Drain Network Analysis and Design Version 3.0 (DNAADV3) can perform all necessary calculations such
as calculate the discharges, sump invert level of nodes, Drain gradients, accumulative design flows etc.
Input information such as upper and lower nodes of Drain section, catchments area of Drain, distance
between nodes, ground level of node and etc. Operation of input is fast and not complicated.
Actually it is to replace the tedious of manual calculation of Drain design. This will save up around 90% of
manual design time and reduce possible human error.
It can setup some user preference based on fix gradients, fix sump invert levels and control the minimum
depth of selected node, difference node in junction and depth, difference Drain material and a lot more
The section builder feature in the design can help user to create the dwg file for every single link of Drain
line (longitudinal sections). This feature will reduce the time for drafting of the longitudinal sections. It also
can have user predefine section. Even now with more control features in section built such as color and
text size setting. It is important when either needed for submission for approval to authorities or
construction purposed.

5. What requirement need for CAD drawing?

Requirement needed for CAD drawing (dwg);

c. Smooth modeling experience
i. Ensure the drawing does not contain 3D

element/entities.
ii. To ensure high quality of clean drawing,
copy necessary layers and paste to a new
drawing.
Scale
Always ensure your drawing scale 1:1 (meter)
Recommendation:
Instead of working on original drawing, which may contain illegal entities and error less data, we
recommended you to turn off irrelevant layer,
copy the layout with necessary layers and paste to the new CAD, to produce a clean drawing.

6. How to modeling inside CAD file (dwg format)?

To add sump
a. Select polyline
b. Draw one polyline, and then stop it.
c. Again, select polyline, continue from the stop before.
d. Sump will be generating inside application.
ii.
To add bend
a. Select polyline
b. Continue draw polyline without stop (mouse click only then continue)
c. Bend will be generating inside application.

7. How to start design using Drain+?

Step 1: Setup Input Parameter
1. Select Setup Icon
2. Drain Setup table will pop up.
3. At General
tab, go to Default Channel Data

i) Select Channel type
ii) Select formula
iii) Select Design Mode
iv) Select Culvert Name

o Gradient and Size
will provide by

FixGradSize
o Gradient and size
provide by user

Step 2: Setup MSMA data
1. Select MSMA Icon
2. MSMA table will pop up.
3. Mouse click to used MSMA II
4. Insert ARI
5. Insert general data
6. To exit MSMA table, select Close

Step 3: Import CAD file

1. Go to CAD tab
2. Select CAD Import icon
3. Locate the project file (dwg)
4. Drawing Scale box will pop up, select Accept
button.
Step 4: Turn off CAD layout

1. Go to Drain+
2. Select Layer on/off

Step 5: Add catchment area

1. Double click at channel.
2. Toolbox will pop up. Select catchment
.
3. Start to draw catchment area by mouse click (left click)
4. To close catchment area, just right click mouse.
To re-draw, repeat Step 1-4 again.

Make sure all channel contain catchment area.

Step 6: Integrity & Run (Generate Result)
1. Select Integrity

2. Drain Integrity box will pop up. Select OK
3. Select Run

1. Select File

3. Select any location to save. Example Desktop (by default it will go to Document)
4. Create one New Folder and name it. Example Drain.

the project file inside this folder, Drain.
6. Information save box will pop up. Select OK

Step 8: Generate Section

i) Default Section
1. Select Section
2. Drain Section

, mouse click at required section.
4. Select Build
tab.
5. Section will generate at Section
layout.
6. To change anything for Section, such as datum, scale and colour.

Select Setup
button. (behind Build button)
7. To save section. Select Save

(It will automatically got to folder created, and save in .dwg format)
ii) User Section
1. Select User
tab.
2. Select Pick

3. Select node from layout by using mouse click (left click).

Right click mouse to end it.

1. To view data input in 3D environment, select 3D View

2. To save it, print screen then save.

1. To Show the break down channel calculation, select Calc
2. Click Select All

9. How to Check Any Clashing Between Closed Channel With Sewer

Line?
1. Select Integration
tab.
2. Select Layer on/off
icon to on Drain and Sewer line together
3. Select Batch Run
icon.
*If user already run once for each Sewer and Drain,
then direct run the Integrity
4. Select Integrity
icon to check any clashing.
*Warning icon will appear at layout and info will display in Integration dock panel at bottom if
contain any clashing.
5. Select adjustment
icon to make automation adjustment to levels.
*To automate the minimum depth of closed channels or sewers depth. It will re-calculate all sewers and
drains network.

10. FAQ
i.
How to add on different ground level?

Have two method to add GL;
a) Import GL from Earth+ application
b) Manually insert GL one by one
a) Import GL from Earth+ application
i) Make sure same CAD file already run inside Earth+ and save that project.
ii) Go to CAD
tab.
iii)
Select PL Read
icon.
iv)
Earth+ Computation Import Levels will pop up. Insert the finished thickness (if
have).
v) Select Accept
button.
vi)
Located the project file.
vii)
Message Import PL will pop up. Select OK
b) Manually insert GL
i) Select Sump.
ii) At properties (left hand side), change the Ground Level.

How to modeling inside Drain+?

Channel line also can be modeling inside application (if user dont want to modeling at AutoCAD).
i) Select Node
icon.
ii) By mouse click, start to draw channel.
Left click mouse and

release the mouse.
Drag it to create
channel.
Left click to create sump or

right click to end it.
iii) Every mouse click, will create sump.

iv) To end up, right click mouse.
v) To continue channel between sump to sump, select Channel

How to manually add catchment area without draw it?

i) Select Channel at layout.
ii) Add catchment at properties

How to delete catchment area?

i) Double click channel.
ii) Toolbox will pop up.
iii) Select Catchment

iv) Left click one time at channel.
v) Then, right click at channel again.

How to change different channel type or design mode?

Some channel already fix the gradient or size or both. Example to change design mode from
AutoGradsize to FixGradSize;
i) Select channel at layout.
ii) When channel in yellow colour, the properties for that channel will pop up at your left
hand side.
iii) To change;
a. Channel type; Select Channel Type Name
b. Design mode; Select Design
vi.
How to delete channel or sump?

i) Select channel at layout.
ii) In yellow colour, press Delete keyboard to delete it.
iii) To delete sump, make sure delete the channel first.
iv) Then, select sump, press Delete keyboard to delete it.
vii.
How to change depth of sump?

To get IL similar with existing, user need to change (trial and error) the depth of sump.
For example, to change IL from 19.05m to 19.35m;
i) Select Setup
icon to check maximum depth can be changed.
ii) Go to Channel
tab.
*Min D for this channel can be change until 0.3m plus with drop 0.15m, 0.45m only at Depth properties.
iii) Select channel at layout.
iv) Once channel change in yellow colour, the properties for that channel at your left hand
side.
v) Change at Node Start

By default, MinDepth
read as 0.45m
Change MinDepth to
0.15m
vi) The depth of drain will be changed, IL will read as 19.35m.
Note:
NodeStart: First node for that channel
NodeEnd : Second node for the same channel

How to add existing Q?

i) Select sump at layout.
ii) Go to Basin
tab (left hand side)
iii) Add Q value at Qt input.
ix.
How to add more data (such as depth) for section?

i) Select Setup
section.
ii) Section setup will pop up.
iii) Select Row Setup
tab.
iv) Tick any data to add on at Default Section Row.
