Cell group notes

w/c 18th April 2010

Welcome

What memories do you have of eating outdoors?

Worship

We should still be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus (we should always be celebrating
the resurrection of Jesus!) – discuss together what was particularly special for you over
this Easter? What did the Lord show you or remind you of?
Use what you share as a basis for prayers of thanksgiving and praise.
You could also use these verses –they all speak of the truth of easter.

For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness,
but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. (1Cor 5:7b&8)
For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer
has mastery over him.
The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Rom 6:9-11)
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Cor 15:20-22)

Word
This week we’re looking at John 21:1-19. Ask someone to pray for you all as you read
and study it together, and then ask someone to read it out. (it’s worth reading it quite
slowly so that the action sinks in)
1. In his sermon on Sunday, Bill talked about listening for words which express
feelings. How do you feel as you hear this account? Which parts of it stir
something within you?
2. Why do you think Peter and the others decided to go fishing?
3. Why did Peter leap out of the boat?
4. What memories of other events in the gospels do you think Jesus might have
stirred up for the disciples in all that happens in this passage?
5. How do you think Peter was feeling in his three-fold conversation with Jesus?
6. How did Jesus ask Peter to show his love for him?
7. If you put yourself in Peter’s shoes, what is the Lord saying to you? (you might
find it a help to re-read verses 15-19, and keep a time of quiet to allow the
members of the group to reflect and listen for God’s voice personally) – about his
love for you, your love for him, the work he has for you to do?

Do take the opportunity to minister to one another by laying on hands and praying for
each other as God speaks to you.

Witness

Break into threes and review your contact lists – what opportunities have you had to
show love and share faith with the people you pray for? Which friendships do you need
to give some more time to? Pray for each others friends, and pray for each other as
faithful witnesses to the risen Jesus.
