‫ﻭﻥ‬‫ ﺍﻟﹾﻜﹶﺎﻓِﺭ‬‫ ﻜﹶﺭِﻩ‬‫ﻟﹶﻭ‬‫ ﻨﹸﻭﺭِﻩِ ﻭ‬‫ﺘِﻡ‬‫ ﻤ‬‫ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﺍﻫِﻬِﻡ‬‫ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺒِﺄَﻓﹾﻭ‬‫ﻁﹾﻔِﺅُﻭﺍ ﻨﹸﻭﺭ‬‫ ﻟِﻴ‬‫ﻭﻥ‬‫ﺭِﻴﺩ‬‫ﻴ‬
Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths , but Allah will
perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse
.
It has always been the attempt of Satan and his “sipah” that they try to put out
the lamp of righteousness and truth, with their impure blows. However, just like spitting
on the moon does no harm to the moon, rather the one who spits on it, in the exact
manner those who try to blow out the Sun, blow out the lamps of their own wisdom.

Such is the case with the people who are jealous of Imam Abu Hanifah’s
(Rahimahullah) fame, respect, greatness, reputation and God-gifted recognition; that as
much they tried to deprecate him, he gleamed even more, and his enemies were injured
and humiliated further.
In the present era, a so-called “graduate” of the Islamic University of Madinah,
namely Shamsuddeen Afghani, in his two books “‫ ”ﻋﺪأاﻟﻤﺎﺗﺮﯾﺪﯾﺔ اﻟﻌﻘﯿﺪةاﻟﺴﻠﻔﯿﺔ‬and “ ‫ﺟﮭﻮد‬
‫”اﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎء اﻟﺤﻨﻔﯿﺔ ﻓﻲ اﺑﻄﺎل اﻟﻌﻘﺎﺋﺪ اﻟﻘﺒﻮرﯾﺔ‬, deceivingly and deceitfully , when the fuqaha
(experts of religion) , especially Imam Abu Hanifah(Rahimahullah), his fiqh and expertise
were made a target of negative criticism, Allah’s Qud’rah came into motion, such that not
only was Shamsuddin mortified and humiliated, also that he died suffering from the fatal
disease of cancer. On the other hand, the editor of the “Islamic University of Madinah”,
Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Abood clearly denounced such deception and explicated that the
Islamic University never approved any such thesis, in which Imam Abu Hanifah’s
(Rahimahullah) impudence and disrespect was even sensed. We handed over this
thesis to the man named “Shamsuddin” upon the belief that he is a Pakistani and a
reasonable person, to praise the achievements and their jurisprudent expertise. It was
out thought that since he is the resident of that area, therefore his writing on this subject
may provide a chance to encompass the chasm between Ahnaaf and us. But this man,
deprived of fortune, acted with severe dishonesty, malignity and abrogation. Thus, when
an impression was made in the Indo-Pak regarding these two books, upon the instance
of Islamic University of Madinah was this heinous action taken, and when protest was
made to the personnel of the Islamic University, and Shah Fahd, the way the editor of
the Islamic University of Madinah elucidated the matter, clearly shows that the Islamic
University has nothing to do in this matter.
In view of this situation, one of our readers "Qari Hafidh Abdul Qayyum [Mengora
, Sawat ], mailed us an excerpt from the newspaper. The translation by Sheikh
Muzammil Hussain Kaparya was first published in monthly "Bayyinaat", and now upon
the order of Hazrat-e-Aqdas Maulana Syyid Nafees al-Hussaini [Zeyda Majduhu], is
being published in the form of a brochure. For the benefit of the readers, a copy from the
scan of the except is also being presented at the end of this brochure. May Allah make it
useful to the righteous, and a source of guidance to the followers of desires.
‫ﻭﺍﷲ ﺍﻟﻬﺎﺩﻱ ﻭﻫﻭ ﻴﻬﺩﻱ ﺍﻟﺴﺒﻴل‬

 ‫ﺒﺴﻡ ﺍﷲ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﻤٰﻥ ﺍﻟﺭﺤﻴﻡ‬
A few days ago, two books came to view in Saudi Arabia. The name of the
first book is :
"‫"ﺍﻋﺩﺍﺀ ﺍﻟﻤﺎﺘﺭﻴﺩﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﻌﻘﻴﺩﺓ ﺍﻟﺴﻠﻔﻴﺔ‬
"Enmity of the Maturidis for the Salafi Aqeedah."

The name of the author on the cover page is "Al-Shams al-Salafi al-
Afghani", and the book is published by "Al-maktabah Al-Siddique", Taif.

The author of the book claimed that the book is actually a thesis of his M.A(
Majestir ), which he presented to the Islamic University of Madinah , and upon this
thesis, he was awarded an M.A degree by the University.

When the thesis came on sight after publication, there were numerous
allegations against Abu Mansur Maturidi [Rahimahullah], several baseless
quotations attributed towards him, and his followers, especially the Hanafi scholars
were attempted to be defamed and slandered.

The erudite, especially the Hanafi scholars got displeased, for does the
Islamic University of Madinah award M.A degree over such an ill-bred-compilation
of thesis? And Do the teachers and scholars of Madinah University have this much
prejudice?

Likewise, the second book, which, on the cover page, says:

"‫"ﺠﻬﻭﺩ ﻋﻠﻤﺎﺀﺍﻟﺤﻨﻔﻴﻪ ﻓﻲ ﺍﺒﻁﺎل ﻋﻘﺎﺌﺩ ﺍﻟﻘﺒﻭﺭﻴﺔ‬

"The Struggle of Hanafi Scholars in the denial of Grave-worshipping beliefs"
And the name of the author is written: Shamsuddin Al-Afghani.
This book is published by Darul-Sami'ee, Riyadh.

Regarding this second book, the author claims that it is actually his thesis,
which he presented to the Islamic University of Madinah, to obtain a degree
(certificate) of PhD, which he was awarded.

When this book was brought to public view, Imam Abu Hanifah and his
disciples, Imam Abu Yousuf, Imam Muhammad [Rahimahumullah] including other
ulama of Ahnaaf, especially the Indian Subcontinent's chief scholars of Deoband e.g
Sheikh Anwar Shah Kashmiri, Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi and others
were made a target of criticism; such adages were attributed towards them, which
they never wrote, and it was expressed that the Scholars of Ahnaaf and the scholars
of Deoband are all grave-worshippers and Mushrik (polytheists).
Just like the first book, as this book too was assembled under the supervision
of Madinah University and one of its highly regarded scholars, naturally it was a
reason to further the grief and resentment of the Hanafi scholars; also,
strengthening the mentality regarding the prejudiced approach of the Madinah
University and its scholars as well as its researchers, was a natural phenomenon.

(But as the saying goes falsehood has no feet to stand on, abrogation and pedagogic
distortion of the Jews never could remain concealed either, nor can it be of their
agents).
Glory be to Allah, that the deception and delude of Al-afghani, and his
distortions were exposed by the very executive of that thesis, and the present
Chancellor of Madinah University, Dr. Saleh b. Abdullah al-Abood, and unveiled
the Salafism.

The facts enlightened by Sheikh Dr.Saleh b. Abdullah al-Abood are:

"The real name of this person is Shamsuddin Muhammad Ashraf, and his nationality
according to the records of the university is Pakistani. After completing the course of
Hadeeth, he took admission for the Masters degree, in ‫ﻗﺴﻡ ﺍﻟﺩﺭﺴﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻴﺎ‬. The subject he
presented for thesis was :

"‫"ﺍﻟﻤﺎﺘﺭﻴﺩﻴﺔ ﻭ ﻤﻭﻗﻔﻬﻡ ﻤﻥ ﺘﻭﺤﻴﺩ ﺍﻷﺴﻤﺎﺀ ﻭﺍﻟﺼﻔﺎﺕ‬

The Maturidis and their stand on the attributes and qualities of Allah(SWT)

The Acedemic Council of Madinah University, seeing that the student belongs to
Pakistan, his development has been among the scholars of the Maturidi school;
furthermore, he has been studying the Aqeedah of the Salaf whilst staying in the
Arab world. Thus, he is expected to compile a justified and modest analytical
dialogue on the subject.

Therefore, in the thesis presented for Viva, the author concluded the following
outcomes:
" Allamah Abu Mansur Al-Maturidi [Rahimahullah] was scholar of a
high caliber, of countless eulogies and qualities. He has refuted many
deviant groups over a strong and well-grounded criticism; his beliefs
regarding the qualities and attributes of Allah(subhanahu wa ta'ala) are
in accordance with the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah. Likewise, his beliefs
on Nubuwwah [prophethood], Ma'ad, Qadha wa Qadr, and Khalq
Af'aal al-Ibaad are correct, although at some places, there are
differences, but those are not of the degree that he, or his followers, be
counted outside of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah. Hence, in his Zuhd
and Taqwa, and refutation of the deviant and evil sects, he was
eminent."

For this reason, and the above mentioned research and conclusions he was awarded
the degree of Magistrate, yet still, he was not allowed to publish this thesis.
(Note: acknowledgement of a thesis for the degree is one thing, and the permission
to publish is another. The thesis cannot be published without the permission of the
University. If published with permission, it should exactly be the same content as
recognized by the University).

After the degree of Magistrate, when the student applied for the PhD in the
Islamic University of Madinah, the topic chosen by the Academic Board was:

‫ﺠﻬﻭﺩ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎﺀ ﺍﻟﺤﻨﻔﻴﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺍﺒﻁﺎل ﻋﻘﺎﺌﺩ ﺍﻟﻘﺒﻭﺭﻴﺔ‬

The Stuggle of the Hanafi scholar in the refutation of grave-worshiping
beliefs"

The goal of choosing such a theme was the University assumed that this thesis
may serve as a supplement and a finishing point to the previous one (of Magistrate).
Furthermore, such a proposal may help proving that the scholars of Ahnaaf are far
from Bid'ah, Shirk and grave-worshipping. Therefore, the judicious perspective of
the Arab scholars would come to view through the University, affirming that the
Hanafi madhab, like the Shafii, Maliki, and Hanbali madhabs, is a modest madhab,
and as close to the Hadeeth and Sunnah as the other three.
It was our attempt through this thesis to remove the misunderstandings of
our Hanafi brothers that had been developing in their hearts for the past few
decades regarding us, and to eliminate the belief that the Arab scholars have doubts
and suspicions about the Ahnaaf and especially the Deobandis.
For this reason, the student did not choose the topic, rather, it was suggested
for him, which he accepted and agreed to work on. As a result, what came out was
that the scholars of Ahnaaf never worshipped the sayings of Imam Abu Hanifah,
Abu Yousuf or Imam Muhammad [Rahimahumullah ].
Likewise, the saying of Ahnaaf was also quoted that believing in any being
other than Allah to be Aalimul Ghayb, or the belief that the souls of the dead come
back, and behave like the alive, is infidelity.
Furthermore, the fatwa of Shah Waliullah (Rahimahullah) was quoted that:

"If one goes to Ajmer or the grave of Salar Masood to ask for the
fulfillment of his needs, then he is committing a major sin, higher in degree
than murder and adultery, and this too, is a form of idol-worshipping."

In view of these facts, and judging through the perspective of a non-

prejudiced, modest research, he was awarded the degree of PhD.
However, when the two books were seen after they were published, they
appeared to have established an example of fraud, deception, abrogation and
academic embezzlement, al'iya'dhubillah.
In the first book, not only that the inner matter is different from what the
student was awarded the certification, rather the name of the book and the author
are also not what appears to be in the record of the Islamic University of Madinah.
The name of the student on the book, showed his nationality to be al-Afghani, while
in the University record, it was Pakistani.
In the second book too, the author's name is different, while the inner
content of the book is such venomous and prejudiced, which is, in no way suitable
for a meek minded scholar. To deceive the common readers, the published book also
contains the PHOTOCOPY mentioning the names and signatures of the discussants
of the thesis; which too, is another glimpse of his abrogation, fraudulence and
embezzlement. Although it was aimed that the published work is actually the thesis
presented, but the reality contradicts it. For example, in the published book, there is
a quotation:

" ‫ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﻤﺫﻫﺏ ﺍﻟﺤﻨﻔﻲ ﺃﺒﻌﺩﻫﺎ ﺃﻱ ﺍﻟﻤﺫﺍﻫﺏ ﺍﻟﺜﻼﺜﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺎﻟﻜﻲ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺸﺎﻓﻌﻲ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺤﻨﺒﻠﻲ ﻋﻥ ﺍﻟﺴﻨﺔ‬
"‫ﻭﺍﻟﺘﺤﻘﻴﻕ‬
"Hanafi madhab is further away from the Sunnah and research, than the
Maliki, Shafii, Hanbali madhabs."

After Quoting this, Doctor Saleh bin Abdullah Al-Ubood writes:

‫"ﻭﻴﻔﻬﻡ ﻤﻥ ﻗﻭﻟﻪ ﻫﺫﺍ ﺃﻥ ﻫﺫﻩ ﺍﻟﻤﺫﺍﻫﺏ ﺍﻟﻔﻘﻬﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﺴﻠﻔﻴﺔ ﺒﻌﻴﺩﻩ ﻋﻥ ﺍﻟﺴﻨﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺘﺤﻘﻴﻕ ﻭ ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﺤﻨﻔﻲ‬
‫ﺃﺒﻌﺩﻫﺎ ﻭ ﻫﺫﺍ ﻜﻼﻡ ﻤﺘﻌﺼﺏ ﺒﺎﻁل ﻻﻴﻘﻭﻟﻪﺍﻻﹼ ﺠﺎﻫل ﻤﺭﻜﺏ ﻭ ﺍﻥ ﺍﻨﻌﻤﺘﻲ ﺍﻟﻲ ﺍﻟﺴﻠﻔﻴﺔ‬."

"The meaning of this ( ill-faith and embezzling author) is that ALL the
four mad'habs of jurisprudence of the salaf are far away from the Sunnah
and research, while the Hanafi madhab is farther.
Such is an extremely prejudiced and spurious statement, and only a person
who is Jahil Murakkab(ignorant of the ignorant), even if he ascribes
himself to Salafism."

In the end, Dr.Saleh Bin Abdullah alAbood writes:

‫"ﻭﺍﻟﺠﺎﻤﻌﺔ ﺇﺴﻼﻤﻴﺔ ﺘﺒﺭﺃ ﺍﻟﻲ ﺍﷲ ﺘﻌﺎﻟﻲ ﺜﻡ ﺍﻟﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻥ ﻭﻻﺘﻬﻡ ﻭ ﻋﺎﻤﺘﻬﻡ ﻤﻥ ﻫﺫﺍ ﺍﻟﺘﺩﻟﻴﺱ ﻭ ﻤﻥ‬
‫ﻫﺫﺍ ﺍﻻﺴﻠﻭﺏ ﺍﻟﻤﺠﺎﻓﻲ ﻟﻠﻌﻠﻡ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﻓﻊ ﻭ ﻤﻥ ﻫﺫﺍ ﺍﻟﺠﻬل ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻌﻤﺩ ﻭ ﻫﻭ ﺍﻤﺭ ﻤﺠﺎﻓﻲ ﻤﺎﻜﻨﺎ ﻨﻅﻨﻪ ﺒﻪ ﻭﻗﺕ‬
"‫ﻁﻠﺏ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻡ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺠﺎﻤﻌﺔ ﻭﻻﺤﻭل ﻭﻻﻗﻭﺓ ﺍﻻﹼ ﺒﺎﷲ ﺍﻟﻌﻅﻴﻡ ۔‬
The Islamic University of Madinah prays to Allah's forgiveness, and
exonerates itself from this misappropriation, ignorance, deception, fraud
and abrogation. Such an attitude by this person(Shamsuddin alAfghani)
was totally un-expected, and we failed to realize his gross- ignorance and
deviated-beliefs during his academic time in the University…..
All power and might belongs to Allah, the most High the Great."

In the end, the respectable Chancellor of the Islamic University of Madinah

cautioned the Publishers too, that they do not publish the books without research,
and in the future, the Islamic University will not be held accountable for the books
which are not certified by its Academic Committee.
