ad 541)

Method of offering Eid al (anaf)

First make the following intention: I intend to offer two Rakt
al of Eid-ul-Fir (or Eid-ul-A) with six additional
Takbrt, for the sake of Allah ! " # , following this Imm.
Having made the intention, raise the hands up to the ears, utter

.
and then fold the hands below the navel and recite the

an. Then raise your hands to your ears, utter . and
leave them at the sides; then raise the hands to the ears again,

utter . and leave them at the sides; then raise the hands

to the ears once again, utter .
and fold them. In short,
the hands will be folded after the first and fourth Takbr, whereas
they will be left at the sides after the second and third Takbr.
In other words, the hands will be folded when something is to
be recited in Qiym after Takbr, while they will be left at the
sides when nothing is to be recited. Then, the Imm will recite
Taawwu and Tasmiya in a low voice, and Sra Al-Ftia
and another Sra aloud. Thereafter, he will perform Ruk. In
the second Rakat, the Imm will first recite Sra Al-Ftia
and another Sra aloud. (Derived from Durr-e-Mukhtr, Rad-dulMutr, vol. 3, pp. 66)

After the recitation, utter three Takbrt raising the hands to

the ears each time and leaving them at the sides. Then, perform
3

Method of Eid Salah

Ruk by uttering the fourth Takbr without raising the hands,

and complete the rest of the al as per the usual method. To

stand silent between every two Takbrt for as long as .

can be uttered thrice is necessary. (Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 781;

Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 60)

For whom Eid al is Wjib?

The al of both Eids (i.e. Eid-ul-Fir and Eid-ul-A) is Wjib,
but only for those people whom alt-ul-Jumua is Wjib for.
Furthermore, neither An nor Iqmat is uttered for the al
of both Eids. (Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 779; Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3,
pp. 51)

Sermon of Eid is Sunna

The preconditions for alt-ul-Jumua also apply to the Eid
al. The only difference lies in sermon which is a precondition
for alt-ul-Jumua whereas it is a Sunna for Eid al.
Similarly, the sermon of alt-ul-Jumua is delivered before
the al while that of the Eid al is delivered after the al.
(Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 779; lamgr, vol. 1, pp. 150)

The time of Eid al

The time of the al of both Eids starts 20 minutes after
sunrise and continues till Nif-un-Nar-e-Shar. However, it
is Mustaab to delay Eid-ul-Fir al and offer Eid-ul-A
al early. (Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 781; Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 60)
4

Method of Eid Salah

What to do if somebody misses a part of Eid Jamat?

If someone joins the Jamat in the first Rakat after the Imm
has uttered the Takbrt, he should utter the three Takbrt
(other than the Takbr-e-Tarma) instantly even if the Imm
has commenced recitation. Utter only three Takbrt even
though the Imm uttered more than three Takbrt. If the
Imm bent for Ruk before you uttered Takbrt, then dont
utter them in a standing posture. Instead, perform Ruk with
the Imm and utter the Takbrt in the Ruk. However, if the
Imm is in Ruk and there is a strong likelihood that you can
utter the Takbrt and join the Imm in Ruk, then utter them
whilst you are standing and perform Ruk. Otherwise, bend

for Ruk uttering .
and then utter the Takbrt in
Ruk. If the Imm raises his head from Ruk before you
finish the Takbrt in Ruk then do not utter the remaining
Takbrt; they are no longer required.
If you joined the Jamat after the Imm had performed the
Ruk then do not utter the Takbrt, utter them when you offer
the remaining part of your al (after the Imm performs
Salm). Do not raise your hands when uttering the missed
Takbrt in Ruk.
If you join the Jamat in the second Rakat, then dont utter
the missed Takbrt of the first Rakat now; instead, utter them
when performing the remaining part of your al. Likewise, if
you succeed in uttering the Takbrt of the second Rakat with
5

Method of Eid Salah

the Imm, its all right, otherwise, the same ruling as mentioned
above with regard to the first Rakat would apply. (Bar-e-Sharat,
vol. 1, pp. 782; Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 64; lamgr vol. 1, pp. 151)

What to do if someone misses whole Jamat?

If someone missed the whole Jamat of Eid-al, whether he
couldnt join the Jamat at all or his al became invalid due
to any reason after joining, then if possible, he should join Jamat
elsewhere. Otherwise, he cannot offer it individually (without
Jamat). However, it is preferable for him to offer four Rakt
Chsht al. (Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 67)

Rulings for Eid sermon

After the Eid al, the Imm will deliver two sermons. The
acts that are Sunna for the Jumua sermon are also Sunna
for the Eid sermon. Likewise, the acts that are Makr for the
Jumua sermon are also Makr for the Eid sermon. There
are only two differences between these two sermons:
1.

It is a Sunna for the Imm not to sit before the first

sermon of Eid al, whereas it is a Sunna for him to sit
before the first sermon of Jumua al.

2.

In the Eid sermon, it is a Sunna for the Imm to recite

.
nine times before the first sermon, seven times
before the second sermon and fourteen times before coming
6

Method of Eid Salah

down from the pulpit, whereas uttering these Takbrt is

not Sunna for Jumua sermon. (Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp.
783; Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 67; lamgr, vol. 1, pp. 150)

Twenty Sunan and desirable acts of Eid

The following acts are Mustaab on the day of Eid:

1.

To get hair cut (get your hair cut according to Sunna, not
according to the English styles).

2.

To cut nails.

3.

To take a bath.

4.

To use a Miswk (this is in addition to using it during

Wu).

5.

To wear nice clothes, either new, if available, or washed ones.

6.

To apply perfume.

7.

To wear a ring (Islamic brothers are allowed to wear only

one silver ring which weighs less than 4.5 Masha (i.e.
4.365 grams). There must be only one gem in the ring; they
shouldnt wear the ring without a gem either. There is no
limit for the weight of the gem. They are not allowed to
wear more than one ring. Except for a silver ring with the
7

Method of Eid Salah

afore-mentioned conditions, a man cannot wear any other

metal-made ring including even a gemless silver ring.).

8.

To offer alt-ul-Fajr in the Masjid of ones locality.

9.

To eat some dates in odd numbers such as 3, 5, 7 etc.

before going to offer Eid-ul-Fir al. If dates are not
available, then eat something sweet. Even if someone does
not eat anything before the al, he will not be a sinner,
but if he does not eat anything till alt-ul-Ish, he will be
rebuked.

10. To offer the Eid al at a place that is designated for

offering the Eid al.

11. To go to the designated place for Eid al on foot.

12. Although there is no harm in using a conveyance, going
on foot is better for those who can do so. There is no
harm at all in returning by the conveyance.

13. To go to the designated place for Eid al from one path

and to return from the other path.

14. To pay adaqa-e-Fir before the Eid al (this is better,

but if you couldnt pay it before the Eid al, pay it after
the al).

15. To express happiness.

8

Method of Eid Salah

16. To donate adaqa in abundance.

17. To head towards the designated place for Eid al calmly,
in a dignified manner, with a lowered gaze.

18. To congratulate each other.

19. To embrace and to shake hands with one another after the
Eid al as Muslims usually do. It is a good act because it
expresses happiness. (Bar-e-Sharat, part 4, pp. 71) However,
embracing a young attractive boy may lead to allegation.

20. To utter the following Takbr in a low voice while on your

way to the designated place to offer Eid-ul-Fir al, and
to utter it loudly while heading for the designated place to
offer Eid-ul-A al.

(Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 779-781; lamgr, vol. 1, pp. 149, 150)

Method of Eid Salah

A Mustaab act for Eid-ul-A al

In most cases, the rulings for Eid-ul-A are the same as for
Eid-ul-Fir. However, there are a few differences; for example,
it is Mustaab not to eat anything before the al of Eid-ulA regardless of whether or not one is performing the ritual
sacrifice. However, if one eats something, there is still no harm.
(lamgr, vol. 1, pp. 152)

Eight Madan pearls for Takbr-e-Tashrq

1.

The Takbr

is called Takbr-e-Tashrq. Reciting it once loudly is Wjib,
whereas reciting it thrice is preferable after all Far als
offered with the first Jamat of the Masjid from the Fajr
al of 9th to the Ar al of 13th ul-ijja-til-arm.

(Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 779 to 785; Tanvr-ul-Abr, vol. 3, pp. 71)

2.

It is Wjib to recite Takbr-e-Tashrq immediately after

performing the Salm. However, one may recite it as long
as he has not done any such act that negates the Bin (i.e.
resumption or rejoining) of al. For instance, if someone
exited the Masjid or invalidated his Wu deliberately or
engaged in talking, though forgetfully, Takbr would no
longer remain Wjib for him in all these cases. However, if
his Wu became invalid unintentionally, he should recite
the Takbr. (Durr-e-Mukhtr, Rad-dul-Mutr, vol. 3, pp. 73)
10

Method of Eid Salah

3.

If a person is a Muqm [i.e. a resident] of a city or is a

Muqtad who is following a resident Imm in al,
Takbr-e-Tashrq is Wjib for him even if the Muqtad is a
traveller or a villager. However, if travellers or villagers do
not follow a resident Imm in al, Takbr is not Wjib
for them. (Durr-e-Mukhtr, vol. 3, pp. 74)

4.

If a Muqm offers al led by a traveller, Takbr will be

Wjib for the Muqm, but not for the Imm who is a
traveller. (Durr-e-Mukhtr, Rad-dul-Mutr, vol. 3, pp. 74)

5.

It is not Wjib to recite Takbr after Nafl, Sunna and Witr

al. (Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 785; Rad-dul-Mutr, vol. 3, pp. 73)

6.

It is Wjib to recite Takbr after alt-ul-Jumua. One

should also recite it after the al of Eid-ul-A. (Bar-eSharat, vol. 1, pp. 785; Rad-dul-Mutr, vol. 3, pp. 73)

7.

Takbr is also Wjib for the Masbq (i.e. one who has
missed one or more Rakt), but he will recite it after he has
offered his missed Rakt and performed his own Salm.
(Rad-dul-Mutr, vol. 3, pp. 76)

8.

Takbr is not Wjib for the Munfarid (i.e. one offering

al individually). (Al-Jauara-tun-Nayyira, pp. 122) However,
he should also recite it as, according to ibayn (i.e.

Imm Ab Ysuf and Imm Muhammad )'
0 1
 / ),
Takbr is also Wjib for the Munfarid.
(Bar-e-Sharat, vol. 1, pp. 786)
