Langblog. You will also receive a breakdown of your marks in the RAC.

Part I: October 9th - 11th

Study the materials in the unit Scary Stories.

CA2 corresponds to Scary Stories, which is about urban legends and horror films
and stories. We recommend that you start your work for this CA activity doing
these exercises so that you can learn the vocabulary needed, revise grammar and
read about the topic.
Note that although this first part of the activity is not directly reflected in the mark,
we strongly encourage you to do these exercises, since they are going to help you
in your learning process, i.e. in the acquisition of new vocabulary and grammar.

Parts II and III: October 12th - 25th Summary

In Parts II and III you will work on a collaborative writing task. Here is a summary
of the stages. See the next sections for full details.
1 Choose a group spokesperson.

PART II

2 Choose a topic for the story with your group.

3 Plan the sections of the story in your group Debat
space.

6 The spokesperson pastes all sections into your
group wikispace.

PART III

Your teacher will offer suggestions and highlight
errors.
9 Together, edit the story in your group wikispace.
to make a final version.
10 The spokesperson posts the story in the forum.

Part II: October 12th 17th

Make group decisions and work individually to write your part of a
collaborative story.

For this task you will practise creative writing by writing a story
with the rest of the members of your group. You will write part
of a story which is going to be part of a chain, and then post
your contribution in your Group Work Space, so the next person
in the chain can continue the story.
Please note: You will be working in your Group Work
Space / grups de treball.
To access this space go to Comunicaci> grups de treball.
Once inside the space find your group. You will work in the
Debat area and in the Wikispaces area. Only your teacher
can write to the Tauler space.

You should check your Group Work Space as frequently

as possible so that group decisions can be made in a
timely manner.
It is important that all communication between members
of the group takes place in English in the Group Work
Space and not in private emails. Part of the mark for
this CA comes from how you work together and it is
important that the teacher has evidence of this in the
Group Work Space.

1. In your Groups Debat, choose a spokesperson:

Your team should select a spokesperson for this CA activity. This person will be
responsible for:

Organising the group work.

Posting the story title and order of work in the Groups Debat.
Copying and pasting all the different parts (from the different authors) of
the story into the Group Wiki. (You can create a new page in the Wiki by
clicking on Pages and Files +.)
Telling the teacher when the group draft text is ready for him/her to check.
Publishing the finalized text in the Classroom Forum (see Part III).

2. In your Groups Debat, choose a topic for your story and decide on
the order
Your team should choose a general topic for your story. You can use the
pictures that appear in Appendix 1 below for ideas.
3. In your Groups Debat, plan the work.
Decide the order in which each member of the team will contribute to the story. In
order for the chain to work successfully, you should also agree on a deadline for
each contribution. For example:
Part 1 (title and introduction): Ana - Monday morning
Part 2: Montse - Monday evening
Part 3: (ending) Arnau - Wednesday evening
Once you reach an agreement, the spokesperson should send a first message to
your Groups Debat with the title of the story and the order of the contributions.
4. Write your own section of the story.

Individual writing: all your individual texts will form part of a chain, so you need to
read the previous part of the story before you write your own. The last person
should write an appropriate ending to the story.
Note that the individual parts of the story should have approximately 150 or
200 words. This means that a group of three people should produce a text of
about 600 words.
When writing the text, please take into account the Essay revision checklist
document in the classroom.
Each group member should meet his/her deadline. If for any reason you think you
will not be able to meet your deadline, please send a message to your Groups
Debat as soon as possible to inform your partners. If your group needs more
time to complete your story, inform your teacher as soon as possible.
5. Send your section to your group Debat space.

When you have prepared your part of the story, send it to your Groups Debat
as a message, not an attachment.
This individual piece of writing is worth 40% of your CA2 mark.

6. The spokesperson pastes all sections into your group wikispace.

Once the chain is complete, the spokesperson should copy these contributions to a
new page in the in your Groups Wikispace (not the ClassWiki) and paste them
there.
Optional writing activity
From October 13th there will be a writing activity posted on your classroom notice
board. Please follow the instructions that your teacher gives you.
This activity is a good opportunity for you to improve your text editing skills. We
strongly recommend you to do the activity.
Optional weekly activity
The optional activities News weekly continue and will be posted every Tuesday by your
teacher.

Part III: October 18th 25th

Edit your group story into a first draft, notify your teacher, revise and finalise
your story. Read and comment on other groups stories.

7. Text editing: Preparing the first draft of the complete group story (in the
Groups Wikispace)
Edit the story so that the different parts make a coherent whole text. Work as a
group to do this: read and correct the whole story, not just individual parts. Read
and respond to your groups comments and corrections.
To help you do this, here is some advice:

Revise the text using the Essay revision checklist.

Make sure to use appropriate time connectors so that the reader can follow
the sequence of events in your story (e.g., at first, then, beforehand,
afterwards, as soon as, while, eventually ( eventualment!), finally, etc.).
Correct spelling mistakes.
Try to limit repetition by using synonyms, pronouns, etc. Make sure that
your pronouns are correct and match your nouns.
Make sure that verb tenses are consistent throughout the story.
Make sure that you use the same font size and colour throughout the
document.

Important:

Use the comments feature of the wiki to discuss changes with your
partners. For instructions on how to make comments in the wiki please see
Appendix 4. See also the document on collaborative writing that your
teacher will send to the classroom.

8. Now ask the teacher for feedback on the draft. Your teacher will offer
suggestions and highlight errors.
When you think that the first draft of your complete story is ready, the
spokesperson should tell the teacher that the first draft is ready. The
teacher will highlight your errors and give you advice on improvements to make so
that you can prepare the final draft.

9. Together, edit the story in your group wikispace to make a final version.
As a team, correct and edit the text again according to the teachers suggestions.
This will be the final version of your story.
Please note that you will receive a mark (20%) based on how well you have worked
with the other members of your team to edit and improve the text.
10. The spokesperson posts the story in the forum.
Once all members of the group are satisfied with the final version, the
spokesperson should publish the story in the CA2_Scary_stories folder in the
Forum.
Read the stories written by other teams in the Forum and comment on at least
two of them.
Assessment: (40%) Your individual piece of writing will be assessed on the following
elements:

Completion of the task including text length

Ability to communicate your ideas clearly
Organisation of the text
Use of grammar
Use of vocabulary and expressions from the unit

Assessment: (20%) Your participation in group editing will be assessed on the

following elements:

Revision and editing of whole text

Accuracy of corrections

Part IV: October 26th 30th

Record a video Langblog contribution and respond to at least two of your
classmates recordings.

1. Go to the Langblog space in the classroom and record a video contribution of

approximately one minute in which you talk about a scary experience that you
have had or heard about.
Please note the following:
When preparing your recording try to incorporate vocabulary and grammar that
you have studied in this unit. You may prepare some notes, but DO NOT read
directly from a prepared script. You should try to sound as natural and
spontaneous as possible.
2. Listen to some of your classmates contributions. Then record a video or audio
comment on at least two of them explaining why you liked the story.

Assessment: (40%) Your speaking will be assessed on the

following elements:

Completion of the task

Natural intonation and clear pronunciation
Fluency
Use of grammar
Use of vocabulary and expressions from the unit

Please also see the oral assessment criteria for further

details.

At the end of CA2, review what you have learned:

I can
understand written news articles on a non-specialist topic.
understand the details when someone tells me a story.
use words and expressions related to horror and frightening events with
confidence.
write a fictional story and edit it.
explain the events in a story.
