"My sheep hear my voice, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand"

How secure is your faith and trust in God? Scripture describes God’s word as a “lamp for our feet
and a light for our steps” (Psalm 119:105). The Jewish Feast of the Dedication is also called the
Festival of Lights or Hanakkuh. This feast was held in late December, near the time we celebrate
Christmas. This is the time of year when the day is shortest and the night longest. Jesus used this
occasion to declare that he is the true light of the world (John 8:12). In his light we can see who God truly is and we
can find the true path to heaven. Jesus also speaks of the tremendous trust he has in God his Father and the
tremendous trust we ought to have in him, our Good Shepherd. The security Jesus offers is an abiding relationship
with the living God, and membership with his flock, the people of God. Jesus also promises the security of peace and
protection from evil and the greatest harm that could befall us -- eternal destruction. The Lord does not spare us from
all trouble. In this life we will experience pain, suffering, sickness, and death. But through these the Lord will lead us
to ultimate victory and safety in his everlasting home. Even in the midst of our sufferings we can find a peace and
security which no one can give except God alone. We can confidently follow the Lord wherever he leads, trusting that
nothing can keep us from God if we trust in him. Have you placed your life securely in God where it belongs?

RETREAT DAY FOR MINISTERS OF CARE
This retreat day takes place on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at
St. Francis Xavier Church, Mississauga from 8:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The presenter will be Fr.
Peter Bisson, S.J., currently the Socius for the Jesuits in
English Canada and Director of the Jesuit Forum for Social
Faith and Justice. This retreat is intended for new or
experienced Ministers of Care (ministry with the sick,
bereavement, helping the poor, respite care,
immigration/resettlement, peace and justice committee,

YOUTH MINISTRY CORNER:
IGNITE!
Our final Youth Alpha session was awesome!
And what a great session to end with – What
About the Church? As a team, we are looking forward to
meeting again in the fall so that we continue to explore our
faith through bible studies, leadership projects and special
community involvements.
But this week we discovered the importance of the Church
in our faith – the Body of Christ. It’s not only about
Sunday mass. It is about belonging and bringing our own
gifts and strengths to the Body. Just as a hand is as
important to the Body as a foot and an eye as important as
an ear, we are each as important to the Body of Christ as
our brothers and sisters.
And in our unity through the Church, we gain our strength –
in faith, in love and in fellowship. Church is no longer only a
brick and mortar building – we are the Church, sharing our
faith. Ignite!

shared.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 949)

AN INVITATION TO A SPECIAL MASS
I invite you to attend a special Mass for healing of
hurts and reconciliation surrounding the clergy abuse
situation in our Roman Catholic Church at this time.
The Mass will be celebrated on
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
We will pray for the victims of abuse that they will
find truth and peace in their lives.
We will pray for the Body of Christ that all will find a
climate of justice and complete trust again in the
ecclesiastical institution.
We will pray for the clergy that this will be a time of
rediscovering and reaffirming the sense of
importance of sexuality, chastity and emotional
relationships in today’s world.

CATHOLIC SCRIPTURE STUDY
(Opening minds and hearts)
We are excited to announce that in the Fall of this year we
will be holding a Catholic Scripture Study on the Acts of
the Apostles. There will be ten Thursday evening sessions
from 7:30 – 9:-00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Watch the

SHARELIFE
The wonders of aging with
dignity…
In our aging society, there is an ever-
greater demand for support and services to help seniors
live independently in the community as long as they can.
And when that is no longer possible, they deserve the
opportunity to live out their lives with dignity. More than
45,000 seniors in the GTA took advantage of programs and
services offered by ShareLife agencies in 2009, enjoying
the wonder-filled benefits of recreation, education and
social interaction. In addition, 3,400 seniors in need of
more personalized attention received in-residence services
through ShareLife agencies.
To date, through your generosity, we have collected
$75,146.75. This total includes $6,316 from Christ the
King School. The students held many fundraising events
during the Lenten Season and we thank them so much –
they certainly have worked wonders!
Today is the 2nd ShareLife Collection.
Your support will sustain the work ShareLife agencies do to
address the needs of those seeking help and care. Please
give generously. You can work WONDERS!
CONGRATULATIONS TO
OUR FIRST COMMUNICANTS
I extend, on behalf of the parishioners of St.
Francis of Assisi, congratulations to the children
of our parish who received Jesus for the first time this
month.
It was a wonderful sight to see these young people
celebrating this beautiful Sacrament and we pray that
their love of Jesus and His Church will continue as they
continue their spiritual journey with their families.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
The theme this year is “REJOICING IN HOPE” and runs
from May 2nd until May 7th, 2010. Next weekend, May 1st,
representatives from our parish schools will be speaking at
the end of each Mass. Watch the bulletin for more details
next week.
PARISH SKATE
Our Parish Skate last Sunday was a
tremendous success with many parish
families attending. Even I have now been
signed up to save the Toronto Maple Leafs based on my
skating prowess! See you next year!
