Dossier Contents
Your Dossier allows you to keep any evidence you may have of your ability to use and/or
understand languages. This might include certificates and qualifications; but there are all sorts of
other ways of collecting evidence. Using the Dossier will help you show a potential employer or
language trainer that you can do what you say you can do!
You can collect evidence in whatever way you choose; these pages simply show some examples
which might help you get started.
You can arrange your evidence according to the language in question. To help you do this, this
contents page allows you to allocate a section number to each language concerned.
The Dossier includes:

the practical competence statement (page D3) a list of the tasks for which you're
providing evidence. Use a 'Dossier reference number' if appropriate to identify the
language and the piece of evidence (e.g. 2.4 = section 2, 4th sample);
a title sheet (page D4) headed by a reference number (see above) for each sample of
evidence you collect;
certificates (page D5). These may be nationally recognised or issued by an institution;
certificates of competence (e.g. examination certificates) or certificates of attendance
(e.g. at courses, conferences etc);
witness statements (page D6) from colleagues, friends etc, who can vouch for
your competence in the language.

Practical competence statement

This table can be used to list typical work or other tasks which you can carry out using the
language in question. You should make sure that you have assigned a level from the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to each task. We have also included
space to log the National Language Standards and Languages Ladder levels, in case this is
helpful to you.

Task: Improving comprehension from different audio sources.

This task has to do with different websites in which I have the opportunity
to listen different accents. The presenters from the videos or podcast are
from different parts of the world. Besides, I have been using different apps
for my cell phone like Tune in radio that provides different radio stations
around the world. The outcome from this activity is to acknowledge how
English can differ in the world, even in the same country like in the United
States.

Task: Improving reading by using different kinds of literature.

This task has been part of my everyday activities to improve my

performance in this skill. I have been working with different sources like
books and websites that provide tons of materials that can be really
interesting because we can find different literature genres. The outcome of
this activity was to start to looking the literature in another way, specially
Anglo Saxon literature. Besides I was getting conscious about how
literature really matters in terms of a wonderful source of vocabulary.

Task: Improving my writing style for academic purposes.

In this task, I got to read different types of materials and articles in order to
find tips and pieces of advices for a better writing style. Despite of having
problems for finding a good source of materials, the physical ones were the
most effective ones. The outcome of this task was having more sources for
using specific expressions and little details in certain rules that I was
taking for granted.

Task: Improving fluency and make my English looks natural at the moment of speaking.

This task involved working with different people from my job and having
the opportunity of talking to native speakers. There are some interesting
websites that provide controlled environments for this and with people who
are looking for foreign language speakers. The outcome of this task was
having more confidence at the moment of talking, even providing new
expressions and words that I didnt know before.

Task: To focus in different and effective ways to develop a formal presentation.

From this task, I got to be honest to myself, it is quite difficult to find great
sources for this but at least, I found some interesting videos about how to
make an impressive presentation. I found very important from these videos
that there are certain rules to follow in order to impact the audience in a
positive way.
