1. Review
Okay, Let us have a brief review of our past
lesson.
Last meeting we had discussed the
Functions of Management, where in we
already tackled the first two functions
Planning and Organizing.
Anyone who can recite of what you have
learned on the functions of management?
What acronym you should remember in
order to easily remember it?
Any Volunteer? Okay, Tina what have you
learned?

Maam I have learned that the functions of

management are Planning, Organizing,
Staffing, Directing and Controlling, in
short POSDICON.

Thats correct, thank you Tina. How about

others?
Yes, Sally?

Maam I have learned that planning

according to Koontz and O Donnell is
deciding in advance of what to do, how to
do and who is to do it. Also It bridges the
gap between where we are to, where we

want to go.

Another one?

Very good, Thank you Sally. How about

organizing?
Theo?

Maam Planning is basically a decision

making function which involves creative
thinking and imagination that leads to
innovation of methods for growth and
prosperity of the enterprise.
Maam Organizing is the function of
management that follows Planning. It
helps in achievement of results which in
fact is important for the functioning of the
organization because of the
synchronization and combination of
human, physical and financial resources.

I think we must proceed now to our next

lesson, but before that I will give you an
activity prior I present our new lesson.
Please get your notebook and answer What
You Already Know? for 5 minutes then later
we will find out how much you can learned
by doing Self-check .

B. DEVELOPMENTAL PHASE
1. Motivation
Class, who among you have a sari-sari store?
Who manages/runs it? Yes Annie?

So, primarily the owner your mother is the one

manages your store.
Then, who among you buy goods in the
supermarket? What did you observe? How many
staff attends to manage/run the activities of the
supermarket? Yes Lyra?

Yes very good! In a small business like a sari-sari

store, the owner may not need others to help

In our house we have a sari-sari

store and my mother solely
manages the activities in
operating our store. She is the
one who buys, displays,
arranges, accounts and sells
the goods or merchandise to
our clients. But during
weekends, I help my mother to
manage our store.

There are many staff/workers

attend to manage the activities
in the supermarket compare to
a small store, the sari-sari.
Because once the business
grows, it needs a greater
number of persons who will
look after the activities of it.

him/her in running the store, as he/she may

himself be able to look after all the activities. But
as the business grows in size he/she may find it
difficult to manage all the activities alone and may
have to find out suitable persons and employ them.
*It is quite possible that you may start in running
your own business and face such a situation and
employ people to assist you in running the
business. *Alternatively, you yourself may be a job
seeker, in both situations, you may find it useful if
you know how employees are recruited, selected,
and trained for various positions in an organization.
You will learn in detail about the staffing function.
*But for now, in this lesson for today you will learn
only the meaning and importance of staffing and
its steps involves in the staffing process.
