Federal Forest Dollars Should Remain in Qualified Districts
The federal government sends money to over 200 school districts in the state where the government has forest land which is taken out of the tax base. The money is to address the impact of the shrinking timber industry and lost revenues. Below is listed districts that collect $8,000 or more in 2010 from this allotment. This money is similar to federal impact aid that districts with military bases, federal dams, or reservations receive with one BIG DIFFERENCE: The state deducts state education funding equal to the amount of federal forest dollars these districts receive, so the net gain is $0. It doesn't do so for federal impact aid. The Committee for Levy Equalization has decided to begin lobbying both in Washington State and in Washington D.C. to forbid the state from deducting state education funding due to the federal timber dollars a school district receives. For some school districts this is insignficant money, but for many it would be a big shot in the arm. In any event, these dollars belong to these districts and should remain there. Please contact your congressman to include a clause in federal law similar to that for federal impact aid that bans state education fund cuts due to timber dollars and contact state legislators to end this practice. 2010 timber dollars 2010 timber dollars 2010 timber dollars 2010 timber dollars Asotin King Okanogan Snohomish (cont) Clarkston $41,796 Seattle $142,107 Nespelem $18,369 Monroe $58,917 Asotin-Anatone $9,586 Federal Way $67,972 Omak $208,128 Snohomish $73,652 Chelan Enumclaw $14,420 Okanogan $131,368 Lakewood $18,690 Manson $47,175 Mercer Island $12,901 Brewster $117,827 Sultan $16,161 Entiat $27,114 Highline $56,125 Pateros $37,966 Granite Falls $16,961 Lake Chelan $107,512 Renton $43,987 Methow Valley $65,919 Stanwood-Camano $38,201 Cashmere $112,694 Bellevue $54,870 Tonasket $133,505 Stevens Cascade $93,239 Tukwila $9,058 Oroville $77,194 Chewelah $19,644 Wenatchee $601,807 Riverview $9,984 Pend Oreille Wellpinit $12,260 Clallam Auburn $45,435 Newport $269,015 Valley $19,833 Port Angeles $294,711 Tahoma $22,880 Cusick $75,650 Colville $54,625 Crescent $25,963 Snoqualmie Valley $18,636 Selkirk $69,443 Mary Walker $11,714 Sequim $206,491 Issaquah $51,936 Pierce Kettle Falls $20,000 Cape Flattery $33,476 Shoreline $28,044 Steilacoom Hist. $11,922 Whatcom Quillayute Valley $299,894 Lake Washington $75,292 Puyallup $48,610 Bellingham $283,606 Columbia Kent $84,042 Tacoma $64,539 Ferndale $137,887 Dayton $144,857 Northshore $60,667 University Place $12,635 Blaine $57,304 Cowlitz Kittitas Sumner $18,272 Lynden $73,750 Longview $61,780 Thorp $11,520 Clover Park $25,916 Meridan $56,006 Castle Rock $12,310 Ellensburg $214,660 Peninsula $20,691 Nooksack Valley $43,022 Kalama $9,191 Kittitas $51,636 Franklin Pierce $17,026 Mount Baker $55,594 Woodland $19,084 Cle Elum-Roslyn $65,908 Bethel $39,736 Yakima Kelso $45,050 Klickitat White River $9,346 Union Gap $14,976 Ferry Goldendale $19,935 Skagit Naches Valley $35,617 Keller $8,408 White Salmon $23,179 Concrete $16,124 Yakima $375,457 Curlew $72,529 Lewis Burlington Edison $97,860 East Valley (Yak) $69,049 Orient $69,855 Napavine $124,654 Sedro Woolley $106,330 Selah $84,060 Inchelium $61,192 Mossyrock $97,495 Anacortes $67,777 Mabton $23,794 Republic $123,823 Morton $52,819 La Conner $16,295 Grandview $85,819 Garfield Adna $94,751 Conway $10,596 Sunnyside $147,404 Pomeroy $85,820 Winlock $122,544 Mt Vernon $151,664 Toppenish $86,828 Grays Harbor Boistfort $13,648 Skamania* Highland $28,938 Aberdeen $73,720 Toledo $141,595 Skamania $41,914 Granger $37,002 Hoquiam $43,803 Onalaska $145,154 Mount Pleasant $33,150 Zillah $33,692 North Beach $14,896 Pe Ell $49,327 Mill A $44,962 Wapato $81,332 Montesano $27,949 Chehalis $434,997 Stevenson-Carson $1,052,887 West Valley (Yak) $122,088 Elma $38,534 Centralia $547,236 Snohomish Mount Adams $24,271 Ocosta $15,610 Mason Everett $139,942 Jefferson Shelton $134,645 Lake Stevens $58,026 *For Skamania County, these Brinnon $13,297 Pioneer $22,481 Mukilteo $109,708 dollars represent a reduction Quilcene $117,815 North Mason $69,641 Edmonds $150,856 in basic education equal Chimacum $459,271 Hood Canal $10,192 Arlington $40,662 to 30% of their timber dollars, Port Townsend $562,443 Marysville $85,221 an exception to the rule. 010 timber dollars
