DISCOVERING AND BUILDING MY TRUE HOPE (1 Peter 1:2b – 9)

1PE 1:2bGrace and peace be yours in abundance.

1PE 1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, 5 who
through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly
rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith--of greater
worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus
Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled
with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1) God has great love for me.

2) Knowing that I hurt, my Father-God has taken action on my behalf.
3) His fix is not a “refund” or a “repair,” but a whole new life “from above.”
4) This solution came at huge cost to Him, it cost Him part of His life, Jesus Christ.
5) While I do not receive the full benefit now, it is imperishable and kept safe for me.
6) In the meantime, I am shielded by God’s power until my full salvation is secured.
7) Though trials may come in the interim, they are part of God’s refinement process.
8) Persevering in this God ordained process yields faith of greater worth than gold.
9) My mindset and heart as a result, will be filled with inexpressible and glorious joy.
10) That hope for my salvation will most assuredly be fulfilled.

What personally do you want (hope for) more than God’s grace and peace?

SHARING AND PROMOTING OUR TRUE HOPE ( 1 Corinthians 15:50 – 58)
1CO 15:50I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the
trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with
immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

1CO 15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

1CO 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1CO 15:58 Therefore,my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know
that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1) Share your hope ! (1-10 of previous page, your truth short list)
2) Help your “oikos” (a) to know and (b) be there, when they need to know, truth.
AC 16:31 They
(Paul and Silas) replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household (oikos/ia)." 32 Then they spoke
the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then
immediately he and all his family were baptized. (Our “oikos” is our family, friends, colleagues from work and others with whom we
associate) http://www.communityofchrist.net/Potpourri/evangelism/Oikos/oikos.html
3) We are redeemed by Christ’s propitiating sacrifice  justification by God’s Grace
4) Think “Kingdom” – the community of the reborn, heirs/heiresses of the Father
5) Think “imperishable” – born from above, your redeemed soul with a divine wrapper
6) Think “immortal”- “are no ordinary people. You’ve never talked to a mere mortal”
7) God declares us acquitted and free from judgment by imputing the righteousness of
Christ to us by faith, while He still applies His perfect standard of justice,
righteousness and truth…stay the course…labor not in vain…death is overcome.

(I) GOD OWNS ALL AND CLAIMS IT ALL
Ex 19:5 - You obey, you will be my people, and all is mine, this is part of His sovereignty and omnipotence
Ex 9:29 - Moses to Pharaoh, “God owns the entire earth”
Deut 10:14 - Adds that “heaven and heaven of heavens, plus Earth and all that is in it
Leviticus 25:23 - You can’t sell the land in perpetuity, “I own it,” says God!
Job 41:11 Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine, God is God and we are not – there is nothing to be given or repaid
Ezekiel 18:4 - all souls are mine
Psalm 24, 50:12, 89:11 repeated I own it all, world, earth , heavens
OT NET - We are accountable, we are strangers and sojourners, we are only passing through, He shares temporally
1 Corinthains10:26 - Earth is the Lords, He owns it
1 Corinthians 4:7 - What do you have that you have not been given, He owns it all
1 Corinthians 6:19 - We are not our own, we were bought with a price
NT NET - Life, breath and souls are His – we do not own anything, God lays claim to everything, we are strictly sojourners
(II) WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD FOR WHAT HE GIVES US
Matt 12:36 On the day of judgment, we will be accountable for “every careless word” – not owners, accountable stewards
Luke 12:48 Much is required to those whom much is given, and even more to those given more,
Luke 12:18 Rich fool, build new barns
Matt 25:14 Parable of Talents and the Minas – Christ taught accountability
1 Cor 3:10-15 Wood hay and stubble, our possession v. the Kingdom
2 Cor 5:10, All come before the judgment seat
Galatians 6:7 God is not mocked, whatever man sews he will reap – Law of the harvest
While our actions cannot not detract from our salvation, they impact our eternity (no not working for our salvation)
(III) ALL IS TEMPORAL, ESPECIALLY ALL WE HAVE HERE ON EARTH
2 Peter 3:10-11 All will burn
Then how should we live – how much do I look at my temporal life v. eternal
2 Cor 4:18 It’s all about the unseen
Matthew 6:19-20 Don’t lay up treasure on earth
1 Tim 6:6-9 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out
of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a
trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

The Kingdom of God is our Focus
