Materials
A. Heat
Heat is defined as the transfer of energy across the boundary
of a system due to a temperature difference between the system
and its surroundings. Heat is of energy that can move from a
certain place with higher temperature than another if the things
are touched each other. Becouse of heat is one of the energy
form, so the unit of heat in Internetional Standard is Joule and
CGS is erg.
1 joule=107 erg
1 joule=0,24 kal

1 kal=4,18 joule

1. The Effect of Heat on Temperature

If one cup of hot water is mixed with a glass of cold water,
after thermal equilibrium it becomes warm water .This can occur
because when the hot water is mixed with cold water then
heated to release the heat so that the temperature drops and
cold water absorbs heat so that the temperature increase. Thus,
if there is an object that receives heat the temperature will
increase. Heat is absorbed by the objects also depends mass and
constituent
material
objects.
Mathematically, it can be written as
follows.
Q=m c T
Keterangan:
Q=heat adsorbed /released (J )
m=mass (kg)

c=specific heat (J /kg o C)

T =temperature changes( C)

Q=m c T , for certain object the value of

m x c is a constant. The value of

mxc

capacity which is given by the symbol

is also called heat

(with capital letter).

The heat capacity C of a particular sample is defined as the

amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of that
sample by 1C. Heat capacity is defined as the amount of heat
adsorbed or released to change temperatur of the object of one
unit of temperature. Its equation can be expressed by equation
follow:
C=

Q
atau Q=C T
T

Notes:
Q=heat adsorbed /released (J )

T =temperature changes ( C )
C=Heat Capacity ( J / K )

Thus, it can be seen that

C=m x c .

2. The Effect of Heat to Change Shape

Melting Heat and Boiling Heat

Heat absorbed by objects used for two possibilities, namely to

raise the temperature or to change the form of the object. For
example, when the ice melts, when the objects change shape,
but the temperature of the object is not changed despite the
addition of heat. Heat supplied to the ice is not used to change
the temperature of the ice, but to change the form of the object.
This heat is called latent heat. Latent heat is the heat needed 1
kg of the substance for changing shape.
There are two kinds of latent heat, the heat of melting and
boiling heat. Melting heat is the heat needed to melt 1 kg of the
substance. Heat needed to melt a substance whose mass m and
heat melting (L) can be formulated as follows
Q=m x L

Notes:

Q=heat needed for melting 1 kg substance ( J )

m=mass of substance( kg)
L=latent heat ( J /kg )

Just like heat melting, boiling heat is the heat needed to boil 1 kg substance to
change its shape into vapor. This is same with heat needed for a substance to
condense. Thus, the heat needed to evaporate 1 kg of water entirely same as the
heat needed to condense entirely. Heat needed to vaporize a number of substances
whose mass m and heat or steam boiling Lu, can be expressed as follows.
Q=m x Lu

Black Principle
If there are two kinds of water, with high temperature and
low temperature, are mixed into a container so they will reach
the same temperature. The temperature is between the high and
the low of the water. It happens because the water with high
temperature gives its heat to the water with low temperature, so
it will reach the same temperature. This kind of phenomenon is
one of the aplication of Black Principle.
Black Principle states that The amount of heat energy
given by a warm substance is the same as the amount of heat
energy received by cooler substance. Mathematically it can be
expressed with the following equation below.
Qlepas =Qterima
Qhigh=Q low
m x c x T high=m x c x T low
