Q2.
Q3.
A farmers' cooperative association plans to build a new sugar mill in Southwestern Louisiana. The
primary objective of the mill is to provide the farmers with a place to take their crop for processing
that will reduce their transportation costs. The members of the co-op believe that the center-of gravity
method is appropriate for this objective. While there are over 200 sugar cane farms in the region, they
are tightly clustered around six villages. Using the data below, use the center-of gravity method to
calculate the coordinates of the best location for this mill., Also roughly plot (on the grid) the location
of the six farm clusters and the calculated mill location. All mileage references use the city of Lake
Charles as (0,0). [ 05 ]
Q4.
Consider a single facility minimax location problem. It is desirable to locate the maintenance facility
as close to each machine as possible, in order to minimize machine downtime. Eight machines are to
be maintained by crews from the central maintenance facility. The coordinate locations of the
machines are (0, 0), (4, 6), (8, 2), (10, 4), (4, 8), (2, 4), (6, 4), and (8, 8). [ 05 ]
Q5,
The table below defines the precedence relationships and element times for a new model toy. (a)
Construct the precedence diagram for this job. (b) If the ideal cycle time = 1.0 min. what is the
theoretical minimum number of workstations required to minimize the balance delay under the
assumption that there will be one worker per station? (c) Assign work elements to stations. (d)
Compute the efficiency for your solution.[05]

There are three (03) potential sites are short listed (with coordinates shown in table) for setting up a
Manufacturing Facility. This Manufacturing Facility is expected to take raw materials and other
supplies form four (04) different suppliers (coordinates and load to transport are shown in table).
Select the among the short listed locations, the most optimum site/location for setting up the
Manufacturing facility. [05]

There exist five potential sites for a new warehouse A, B, C, D & E and the firms major customers are
located in five cities 1,2,3,4 & 5. The annual costs of meeting the customers demands in a city from
each site are given in Table. The annual fixed cost of providing a new warehouse is also given for each
site. Choose the best warehouse site among the sites given using PLANT LOCATION MODEL. In
case of multiple site selection, state reasons for selection.[05]
