Quad combat 2016

(TCS PRAGYAN 2016)

Introduction
Quadombat, an event that gives a platform for engineers for those who dream about flying and racing .A
multirotor made by the participant will be tested on its Speed, Maneuverability, Design and handling of
Mutirotors on various tracks will be tested
Purpose of the Contest
To give a platform to showcase their skills to race
To bring the awareness to the society regarding the importance of drones and how they can be used to
face natural calamities.
Natural calamities include
Floods(drones were used in Chennai floods for the first time in India to trace people and to
inspect some of the areas where humans cannot reach)
Earth quakes
Food particles transfer
Applications:
To ease spraying pesticides and fertilizers using Drones/multirotors
To plant seeds in an area in a very less time using multirotors
Can be used in mines for human safe guarding
To let world know all the ways of using drones
Participation Guidelines

Drone should fit in a box of 60x60x30 cm

Drones include TRICOPTER,QUADCOPTER,HEXACOPTER etc.,
Teams with Ready to fly(RTF) models will be disqualified , however pre-programmed boards
may or may not be used. Already built frames can be used.
Fpv, Gps or any kind of automated modules are not allowed
No restriction on material used in making the drone but metal propellers are not allowed.
One single team member should pilot the drone in a round however pilots can be changed from
round to round
A single participant cannot be a part of two teams

TCS Confidential

Each team must have its own model. Exchanging of models is not allowed however components
like battery, receiver, transmitter can be exchanged

A team can use only one model throughout the event in all the rounds

Contest Structure
To bring out the best of a participants creativity and innovation in designing a multirotor while testing
their skills to maneour. The contest will have three rounds

It is mandatory to finish all the rounds in the stipulated time frame to complete the contest.
All rounds will be taken into consideration at the time of finalizing the winner for the contest.

The following stages explain the structure of the event in detail:

Registration
The students should form their teams during this stage and register on Campus Commune by the specified
date. The following are the guidelines for registration:
A minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 3 members per team
For More information : quad@pragyan.org
Format:
Abstract submission
The teams have to submit an abstract on their progress for the event
ROUND 1 :

Drone has to go through 1,2,,8 two concentric polygonic check points in the arena
Maximum 230points, for the first round (160+70)
If the center of the drone lies inside the inner polygon,20 points will be given
If the center of the drone lies between inner and outer polygons,10 points will be given
If the center of the drone lies between outer polygon and a boundary around the check
point no point will be given
If the drone lands anywhere else other than the mentioned places above, negative 5 points
will be given
If the drones touches the ground(not on the check points), it will be considered as an
attempt to land and negative 5 points will be given for the successive check point as a
penalty , he can skip it and can go for next check point in that case
A drone must land at a minimum of 5 check points out of 8
Piloting will be done from a circle of dia 1m around which all the checking points are
located
There will not be any timeout after starting and before you finish off the round

TCS Confidential

Check point will be like this , polygons might vary in the event, this is just for your understanding

ROUND 2:

The team member should add the mass on the drone at the specified location which will be
specified by the organizers

A total of 5 different objects of different masses will be given to the team member, in a
duration of 30 seconds to each and the team member is expected to stabilize the drone in the
time given. If he fails, that particular object will not be considered

Maximum points 200, stabilizing each object in 30 seconds gives 40 points

The object can be of any shape, but its design is so that it can be easily placed on the drone

The drone should be hovering statically while adding the mass

Altitude of hovering should lie in the range 70cm-170cm

ROUND 3 :

Hitting any obstacle in the track will cause a penalty of 5 points

Going out of the track will cause a penalty of 5 points
Flight Time will be noted
The pilot can move around the arena/track for better view on drone
Best of two trails will be considered based on Normalized Points

SCORE CALCULATION:

Cumulative Normalized points secured in each round will be considered for

deciding the winners
For 1st round
6 Seconds are equalized to 1 point
Normalized Points (NP) = points scored + (7*60-T)/6

TCS Confidential

T-time taken by the participant to finish the round in seconds

Total score in the round = Normalized Points - penalty points

For 2nd round

Normalized points are the points scored

For 3rd round

2seconds are equalized to 1 point
Normalized points (NP) = (7*60-T)/2
Total score in the round =Normalized points-penalty points in seconds

Total score in the event= sum of final scores in each round

Maximum score possible= 230+200+210
=640

Winners:
Top 3 teams will receive prizes. All the participant teams will also have an opportunity for an internship
with the TCS Engineering team subject to the terms and conditions that govern the process
